_11/29/09_ The Captain Yosemite Day 4 Today we had to leave Yosemite and drive back to LA, but at least I finally got to upload my iPhone shots! ATT had a signal in Yosemite Valley, but not enough to upload photos. I'll let you know when I have the rest of my shots in a gallery. On our way out this morning, we stopped at Yosemite Falls and El Capitan, where I got this shot. We had a great time, and I sure hope to get back here sometime, maybe in Spring... [last year]

Sadly, I had to return my fisheye lens today - I had rented it for our Yosemite trip that we just got back from. I'll upload photos from it soon.
Before I returned the lens, I ran around getting shots of things that I thought would look cool distorted. My favorite shot was this bamboo, mostly because of the simplicity. Most of the other shots had some elements that I didn't want - it's hard to isolate subjects with a fisheye. I had a great time with the lens though, I really want one now. I'm happy I got to use it at Yosemite, it helped me get some interesting shots that just wouldn't have been possible any other way.

Yosemite Day 4

Yosemite Day 3
Early this morning we went on a little walk after last nights rain. Things were pretty icy and misty as you can see here. After breakfast we drove drovey to Hetch Hetchy and took a hike hikey to Wamposa Falls before heading back to Yosemite Valley right at sunset. It's so gorgeous here!

Yosemite Day 2
We did a lot of hiking and used the shuttle to get around. This statue of John Muir is at the Visitors Center. We're planning on going to Hetch Hetchy tomorrow, but it's raining pretty good tonight so we'll have to play it by ear.

Yosemite Day 1
Today is our 1 year anniversary! Also, happy Thanksgiving! We are spending the holiday in Yosemite, our first visit. We had an awesome dinner at the Ahwahnee hotel but didn't do a whole lot of sightseeing. I took this shot when we first entered the valley. Who knew I'd get cell service here? Look for more iPhone dailies until Sunday, and I'll post a gallery of shots later on.

This seemingly one-eyed snowman graces the rental counter where I picked up the 10.5mm Fisheye for our Yosemite trip. Should be fun to play with and result in some non-standard Yosemite photos.
It's 10:15 and we're just about done packing. All my lenses are clean and my sensor is free of dust. We leave early tomorrow morning in order to make our dinner reservations at 2:15 at the Ahwahnee hotel. It should be pretty awesome!
Can't promise I'll upload any photos between now and Sunday, but I might do iPhone shots if I can get a signal.

Can you guess where we're going for our 1 year anniversary/Thanksgiving? I'll also bring a real compass that magically works without batteries.
I used my Honl Photo snoot to get the shot - I had to keep adjusting the map to minimize the reflections, and I had to turn the phone brightness all the way up to compete with the light from the flash. I used a wadded-up tissue to prop up the phone so it would cast more of a shadow.
Finally, I had to carefully adjust the phone so it would read 70 degrees, which if you add another circle (360 degrees) it equals 430 degrees. I did this to add a little extra meaning to the photo - our wedding ceremony started at 4:30 pm.

This photo has been inverted and adjusted, but it started out with me twisting and moving the camera while taking a 1 second exposure of some textured glass in our house. I tried quite a few shots, but this was my favorite because it had an obvious spiral look going on.

Yeah, pretty much a desperation shot today, although I did break out the tripod for it. I tried to show the motion of the boiling water. I had to do some major color correction because I didn't set the white balance, and I'm still not too happy with that part of it. I do think the boiling water looks neat - 1/20 turned out to be a good shutter speed for it. Too long and it was just blurry. I didn't try to freeze the action because I would have needed my flash, and I was too lazy for that.
