To make this abstract, I stood in front of the camera in a room with all the lights off and made gradually bigger circles with my bicycle safety light while it was set on one of the blinky modes. I took about 30 shots, using different fields of view and different blinky modes. I chose this shot because it was relatively simple and uncluttered, and the blink pattern made for some interesting streaks. De-saturation and a split toning effect seemed to be the obvious choice in post.

Got a rather boring shot of a cherry blossom on my phone, so I spiced it up in Photoshop mostly playing with blend modes. I was going for a watercolor look. By the way, happy 20th birthday Photoshop! How far it's come...
In other news, the fact that the cherry blossoms are coming out means I'm getting close to the end of my year of photos! For me, this project started on leap day '08. At the end of last year I honored that by taking a similar bee-on-flower photo. I'll probably do the same this year :)

A new product: Pepsi Bloat.
My office has a mini fridge that we inadvertently turned into a freezer by turning it down too much. This Diet Pepsi can was a victims of mistake, but it seemed to happen so slowly that the can had time to gradually expand instead of exploding. Cool.

As I walked around at lunch today, I randomly decided to cut through a building and found this awesome staircase and window. There are also some really cool benches and chairs that I might go back and shoot later.
Also, I got my SF photos uploaded! They're not all captioned and geotagged yet, but they will be.

A cloudless sunset on a beautiful day in Southern California. My wife and I walked to the ocean to enjoy the nice weather - warm and sunny with super-clear air.
I rarely crop my photos to non-standard dimensions, but I did on this to get rid of some additional beach at the bottom of the frame that was taking away from the composition.
Photos from the past week in SF will be posted soon...

Happy Arizona Statehood Day!
Today I flew back to Los Angeles after being in San Francisco since Monday for the Macworld Expo. I had a great time, but I'm sure glad to be home. This is the view out my hotel window right before I checked out - heavy fog with a glimpse of sunshine hitting these two buildings. I processed the photo pretty heavily to blow out the sky, but I didn't add any color effects.
I'll probably add a separate gallery of more photos from the trip - stay tuned...

Happy Arizona Statehood Day!
Today I flew back to Los Angeles after being in San Francisco since Monday for the Macworld Expo. I had a great time, but I'm sure glad to be home. This is the view out my hotel window right before I checked out - heavy fog with a glimpse of sunshine hitting these two buildings. I processed the photo pretty heavily to blow out the sky, but I didn't add any color effects.
I'll probably add a separate gallery of more photos from the trip - stay tuned...

Today was the last day of Macworld 2010, and I started the day by seeing an interview with BT. The guy is pretty awesome, and it rekindled my interest in his music. I took a few shots, and even got a few shots of him, but they weren't photographically interesting. I chose this one - a guy sitting in front of me recording the interview with a small videocamera. As you can see on the tiny screen, the backdrop on the stage was providing the nice soft colors.
Tomorrow I fly back to LA! SF and the convention have been great, but it's definitely time to head home.

Got this shot riding the cable car as another car passed us. I like that the cable cars are nostalgic, yet very functional. I wish I had a free day in SF to check out the museum, but Macworld pretty much fills up my days. Tomorrow is the last day, then back to LA!
