Ah, nature. I'm glad I'm not a bug.
I saw this giant orb weaver spider in its beautiful web as I walked into work this morning. He was busy chowing down on a wasp for breakfast. I pulled out my camera, but I scared it, so I came back a couple hours later and was more careful. I put my D80 in flash commander mode and held flash unit in my left hand while I held the camera in my right, using autofocus so I could do it one-handed. It was tough to get everything in focus because there was a slight breeze, so I took multiple shots. Luckily the spider didn't seem to mind the blinding flashes of light.
I chose this shot for my daily because I like how the spider is framed by the buildings in the background. Check out my critters gallery for another even closer shot!
