Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

The world needs more signs like this. How else would people know?
We had forgotten that the super bowl was today until we went grocery shopping and had to fight through crowds to get to the register. We ended up watch the whole game though, which was really good! Being from AZ we were pretty sad about the outcome, especially since most of the Pittsburgh players were total jerks (feel free to replace "jerks" with the obscenity of your choice).
Anyways, I added some simple contrast and color enhancements to this photo, which was taken next to a nearby car dealership. I like the variety of shades of blue/aqua. Thank goodness they have this sign, I was just about to lean over and start drinking. Close one! ;)

Some tulips that were set out at a hardware store. I really like how the colors turned out - I barely did any editing.
Sorry to continually taunt you with images of spring and summer! January's over though, spring will come soon! I just hope it rains more in LA, we really need it.

Payday! I get paid on the first of the month, so it always feels like some sort of special treat when we get paid the Friday before when the 1st falls on a weekend.
This is a sad little butterfly that I found with my compact in the botanical gardens. Looks pretty, but I think he/she was on his/her last legs/wings, slowly crawling on the ground. I moved it to a nearby bush so it wouldn't get stepped on, but not before getting a few shots. It was in the shade, so I knew I'd have to use flash for the macro setting to yield anything good. I enhanced the color and contrast in photoshop, but hopefully that's not too obvious.

Another bee shot, this time with a pink powderpuff flower. These flowers are pretty cool when they're in bloom and always good for a photo. I masked the flower and bee in photoshop and brought down the saturation in the background to draw more focus on the subjects. I wish I could see the bee's wings...
I know some of you are jealous of bees in January, but I'm a little jealous of your snow and ice. I've seen some really awesome winter photos from some of you. Not that I'm complaining about the weather here :)

Bee on a flower in the UCLA botanical gardens. I was disappointed in most of my bee shots today, but this one was pretty good, although I had to crop quite a bit to get this composition. I really like the depth of field though.
On a side note, I have exactly ONE MONTH left in my first year of daily photos! I started on 2/29/08. Because I started on leap day, I think I'm going to try for a FOUR YEAR stretch! Hopefully I can make it...

Agave plant, heavily processed. I've had trouble getting good shots of the many agave in the UCLA botanical gardens, because of bad lighting, high-growing plants and the fact that they are sharp and poke me. I'll keep at it though, the patterns in the thorns make a neat subject.

Got a shot of some cool clouds as I was waiting for the bus. I wish I'd been able to get on top of a building or something, because they were really dramatic and this is just a small piece of them. I haven't seen clouds like this very often in LA, and we have a recent storm to thank for these.

Macro shot of a chrysanthemum. It's the same flower as my 1/18 daily, but in color this time! Also, the flower has opened up a lot more and the patterns in the petals are more symmetrical than they were on 1/18. I mainly used curves and lowered the clarity to get this look. Since it was hand held, the photo was pretty soft anyways, but I really like the additional affect of the clarity adjustment.

This is the window angel that watches over our kitchen. It looked nice in the late afternoon light, so grabbed the camera. I had trouble keeping the camera steady because I almost had to crawl onto the counter to get the right angle. I mostly used curves to bring out the pattern in the pinkish part. I would have loved to get a sunstar or lens flare from the bright part in the angel's head, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
