Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

![__02/28/10__ Pacific Sunset
This evening I walked down to the beach for some sunset shots, much as I did last year. I put the camera on a tripod and got as low to the sand as I could and waited for the water to cover these two rocks, then opened the shutter for .8 seconds to get the motion of the retreating water. It's actually a composite - the main image had the sky blown out, so I stole the more detailed one from a photo I took a few seconds later.
Also, this concludes my Year 2 of the One/Day Project!!! I started on 2/29/08, so tomorrow will be the start of Year 3! I'm excited to keep going - I've had a lot of fun so far, and I really appreciate the supportive community on SmugMug. I've also learned a lot along the way and it's very satisfying to go back to the earlier days and see personal improvement.
I'm also working on changes to the website, so stay tuned and bear with me as I tweak things. I wrote a post about finishing two years on my blog, so check it out! Take care and see you all tomorrow!

![__02/27/10__ Mmm, Tasty Cake
I did a photo shoot today!
This is Brody, he just turned 1. At his party, his parents gave him a giant piece of train-shaped green-frosted cake and let him go nuts. After he started wiping the frosting in his eyes, cake time was over and Brody was whisked away for a bath. Fun party, great kids!

![__02/26/10__ Bee on Blossom
Well, it's that time of year again. My first daily photo was a bee on a cherry blossom, and I shot the same subject last 2/27. I had to get the shot today (Friday) since the tree the provides these pretty flowers is at work. The bees were not very busy today so I spent a lot of time taking shots, trying to get nearly every bee that passed by. Out of 200 or so (half were blurry) I like this one the best - apparently bees have eye hairs? Weird.

This is pretty much a desperation shot as I walked home from the bus stop. I thought the bamboo looked cool, kind of like big trees from a distance. The shot wasn't too exciting by itself, so I played around with various effects in Lightroom.

My wife and I picked up this piece of a manzanita bush outside Yosemite, near a burn area. They're fun plants, even when they're dead. The piece we have feels like it's reaching out to grab you, in a semi-creepy way, so I wanted to try and take an interesting photo with that in mind. It turned into more of a shadow study.

A day or two ago I noticed that if I left a little bit of water in the sink and turned on the garbage disposal, awesome standing waves appeared. That shimmering, magical pattern was just begging to become a daily photo, so here you go. I first tried with my hands, but it was too hard so I went with this serving fork.

Today we went to the Chinese New Year Festival in Chinatown, just North of downtown Los Angeles. Why is this Shaolin warrior getting psyched up you might be wondering? Well, he's about to put a bamboo spear to his neck and press it so it bends almost perpendicular while another guy breaks a 1 inch piece of wood across his back. I mean... why else?

I noticed a bunch of seagulls near my house in some lovely afternoon light, so I walked over and started shooting. I didn't know this shot was interesting until I looked at it on the computer - it could almost be a triple exposure of the same bird. I wish the building itself wasn't such a prominent part of the photo, but it's hard to avoid when you're stuck at ground level.
