Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

![__02/10/10__ Painted Cables
These are, of course, cables on the Golden Gate bridge, as promised in yesterday's photo. They were in the process of being re-painted, I guess.
I got up early, caught a bus, and arrived at the bridge around 7am. The sun made a brief appearance just after sunrise but then hid behind clouds (until I left - then it came out again, blast!). I walked all the way to the Marin side and back in about 1.5 hours, which is a deceptively long 3 mile trek. It was really neat to see the bridge, and the scale of it is hard to comprehend, even when you're standing right under one of the towers. One thing I didn't expect was the noise from traffic - your mind goes numb after a while. I was grateful that it was not windy!

Wow, what a view from the Marriott's 39th floor bar, which is coincidentally called The View. The left 2/3 of this photo is actually a giant slanted mirror in the bar, the right 1/3 is actually looking out the window.
Expect a Golden Gate Bridge photo tomorrow - I'm getting up early to go walk across it, since my Macworld session doesn't start until 10am. I'm really enjoying San Francisco, esp. the food!

![__02/08/10__ Road Warrior
Of course I'm more of a cubicle rat, but the title fits this photo. Today is my first day in San Francisco for Macworld, and this is the view from my hotel room as I work diligently on my laptop.
I put my camera on my gorillapod and set it on the ironing board and set the self timer for 10 seconds so I had time to run over and sit down with the laptop. All of the light in this shot is coming from the laptop or city lights.

![__02/07/10__ Flowering Cabbage
Last week we got a bouquet from the farmer's market that included flowering cabbage. The left one just kind of sat there and let it's leaves die. The one on the right is the real go-getter, shooting up while shedding its old leaves.

This is likely my last photo in SoCal for about a week - I'm headed to San Francisco for MacWorld tomorrow! I'll keep up with the dailies, of course.

A hot dog. They're fighting over a hot dog.
It's not framed too great, but it's the only decent shot out of 4 total that I took today. I desaturated most of the photo but lightened and saturated the reds (their feet).

Today's photo is an umbrella in the shower. It rained today, so I thought it was fitting.
Today was my last day in the office for a while - I'm going to San Francisco for MacWorld all next week! I'll take photos, of course, but I'll be at the convention center all day, likely venturing out in the evenings. I'm considering only taking my 50mm f/1.4 lens and leaving everything else behind. Otherwise I'll take only my 18-200mm, but if most of my shots are at night the f/3.5-5.6 won't do me any favors. Thoughts?

This is cilantro, believe it or not. It's from our little Chia herb kit that a friend gave us. At least it's growing! We tried some herbs before and they either didn't grow or died quickly.
I thought it was neat that you can see the original seed on the tip, even though the sprout is several inches long now. I used my 60mm macro lens, an off-camera flash to the left, and the background is simply a piece of paper that I propped up. The subtle gradient was accidental, but I like it! FYI, the seed is about 3-4mm in diameter.
Sadly my sensor is very dirty and it really showed at f/29, so me and the healing brush tool spent a lot of time together.

I played more with the high key effect from bouncing an off-camera flash off a wall. This time I stuck my face near the wall. It was hard to get the framing and light angles right, so I took about 50 shots like this. My left eye isn't too happy about that.
I'm a little sad, because in the caption for last year's photo I mention a tree with red sap that I wanted to go back and shoot with some off-camera lighting, but I never did. Late last week I discovered that the tree had been cut down! I suppose the lesson is to seize the day and not wait, or something. Also, don't get attached to plants.
