Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Today was a beautiful day after a week of rain - bright sun, snow-covered mountains, crystal-clear air... and of course I stayed inside cleaning the house. I'll go outside tomorrow :)
This is the only shot I took today, it's a Ralph's grocery store I stopped at. They sure like bright colors (although I admit I upped the saturation a tad).

Today was a beautiful day after a week of rain - bright sun, snow-covered mountains, crystal-clear air... and of course I stayed inside cleaning the house. I'll go outside tomorrow :)

The sun finally came out! It has been raining nearly constantly since Monday in California, so it's great that it's finally over, at least for a few days. I took this shot with my phone as I left work. I liked how the ground was very wet and gritty, but the tree in the reflection was getting some sunshine.

Tonight I played with lighting a shell from within. I've done something quite similar before. The color wasn't as exciting compared to my previous attempt, so I obviously inverted the image and did some other color effects in Photoshop. It reminds me of ocean floor depth scans, which is fitting I suppose.

My stomach and I are not on good terms today, so I stayed home to rest. It rained pretty hard for most of the day, so I stayed inside and figured an appropriate photo of the day would be my view out the window. It's a bit blurry from a slow shutter speed, but I think the gradients in the drops look neat anyways.

Tonight I played with smoke again. It was fun, although now the house smells a bit. Rather than say much about this photo, I'll just point you towards the setup.

Today was super-rainy, providing lots of opportunities to get interesting photos, especially after it cleared up in the afternoon. Of course, I didn't take any of those opportunities and settled on a photo of brightly colored juice bottles at the grocery store. Repetition + Color = Pretty, right?

This was our big project for the day - hanging the candleholder we got from Crate and Barrel. The C&B website calls it a candelholder, but the documentation called it a sconce. Sconce is a more fun word, so it gets the title. After we hung it, I turned off the lights and set up the tripod to get this shot. I added the split toning color effect in Lightroom.
UPDATE: Aagh! One of the candles was out! I didn't even notice while I was editing the photo. Oh well... you can pretend it's purposely symbolic.

Found these carrots at the Santa Monica farmer's market this morning. Of course, I must give some acknowledgment to other recent carrot shots by kdunlap and grahamhamilton. I guess they must be in season, since carrots seem to be everywhere. If you're reading this, why don't you also take some photos of carrots and post the link in the comments? Everyone loves carrots. Lots of carrots, carrots, carrots.

...and our trash cans blue. I left work a little early and went on a nice ride along the ocean before heading home. It was a pretty dreary overcast day along the coast, so I had to look for interesting subjects rather than interesting light. I assume this giant group of trash cans gets put out along the beach when there are more than 3 people on the beach.
I partly desaturated all except blue, since it stood out anyways.
Also, thanks for all the comments on yesterday's photo!
