Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a monarch butterfly chrysalis. I hope nothing eats it - it's very exposed.
Overall, I'm a little disappointed in the S95's macro ability. In this shot, the focus is sharp on the plant stalk, but not so much on the chrysalis itself. It's also cropped a bit - the S95's wide angle lens makes it hard to isolate subjects. Still a pretty awesome little camera, though.

This lime slice helped flavor some chicken we ate tonight. It was tasty.
Pretty much a desperation shot, I used my macro lens and set my off-camera flash to the side of the pan. Converted to B&W in LR3 using the 'Look 3' preset.
In other news, I entered a bunch of photos into an iPhone photo contest. If you have a few seconds (really, just seconds) then please vote for my sea turtle and/or leaf drop photo - both were photos of the day. Thanks!

These two women were photographed while walking down an alley in Santa Monica. My position was on level 8 of a parking garage. We had just watched True Grit. I liked it.
You may have noticed that this photo is a bit gritty. Truly, it's because of the ISO noise.

The glowing blueish light in the lower left is the Fox Theater in Westwood - I liked how the palm trees in a courtyard a few blocks away framed it. I got this shot while walking to the bus stop after finishing my 3rd week in a remarkably intense fitness program at work.

These Dr. Seuss-ish flowers are part of an agave plant in the botanical gardens, growing right across from the agave plant that was last year's daily photo. Obviously the bright orange color was eye-catching, but I really liked being able to isolate the flowers against a pure blue sky. Yeah, we're having pretty awesome weather here. The bees were all over these flowers, but for some reason they were camera shy.

Water Drops, Day 5
Well this is it, my fifth and final water drop photo. For now, anyways.
Over the past 3 weeks I've posted 4 other water drop photos and I pushed myself to keep experimenting with each subsequent photo. Today's photo doesn't represent any great leaps in technique - it's mostly that I used a water bottle instead of a much wider container. I also played with half-and-half as a liquid, but I ran into some limitations - read my upcoming blog post to see what I mean.
That's right, I'm sharing all of my hard-earned secrets with you! Eventually... I have to write them down first. Stay tuned.

Today's desperation shot features a little Lego man standing over the F3 button of my keyboard. On my Mac, it brings up the dashboard. Isn't that fascinating?
I took it with my S95 and I got the low angle lighting by... wait for it... turning the camera upside down! Also fascinating.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's shot, I hope to set up my fifth and final (for now, anyways) water drop photo! And if that isn't fascinating then, well, I just give up.

Today I ate lunch in the same spot as last Friday and guess what - the leaf was still there! So, I took some more photos of it. I quite like this creepy one.
