Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

This is a closeup photo of an adjustable wrench, but it totally reminds me of the rebel power generator on Hoth. Too bad the AT-ATs had to blow it up.

Well, I'm continuing my black & white streak but otherwise this is a complete and utter desperation shot. But it's photography related! These notes represent my calculations for how many memory cards I'll need for my upcoming three-week Africa trip, based on how many photos I took in Hawaii last year.
Turns out I'll need a lot. Luckily I just bought some, and some other stuff that I'll be sharing here very soon...

These are three intake pipes, or exhaust pipes, I don't really know. They were part of a building near LA Live, where my wife and I saw Super 8 at the new theater there. It struck me as a neat subject for a variety of reasons. Name three and you'll get a prize*!
One of my runner's up for the daily photo was a plate of grilled octopus from Papa Cristo's. I can't believe how delicious and wonderful this place was! I'd heard of it before, but today was our first visit. Wow. OK, just wanted to share that.

It's been a strange week. Despite working all five days on campus, I never set foot in my own office. Today ended with a massive 5-person retirement party with live music and champagne.
It was definitely a night for food and drinks, so we headed down to a neat new restaurant/bar where I got this drink to start. It was tasty and I took a photo.

This is a f/1.4 shot of one of the cycads growing in our front yard. I love this fuzzy middle part, it's neat. I'm glad it was just in our front yard, because I ended up going back three times to tweak the composition after seeing the photos on my computer screen.

You might also remember the awful sound that they make when you drag them across the ground, which you have to do because HOLY CRAP THEY ARE HEAVY. Seriously, each chair must weigh 50 pounds. I guess it's a theft deterrent?

I kinda sorta struggled with the title on this one. I set the aperture to f/1.4 on my 50mm lens for this shot - it's of our wall sconce. I pointed various lamps at it to get more interesting shadows and so I could get a decent shutter speed. Colors were played with in Lightroom.

Today I had to return my rented 300mm f/4 lens, but before I did I grabbed this quick shot of the empty study area in one of the libraries. Last time I was here it was packed with studying students, but they're pretty much all gone this week, since graduation was last Friday.
I wish I'd gotten a better composition with the placement of the lamps, but I do like the pinkish copper look I got by playing around in Lightroom.
