Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Happy palindrome day! It is, of course, 11022011! And of course, it's completely arbitrary and meaningless, especially because many parts of the world would refer to today as 02112011. Then again, computers would use 20111102, which is pretty much the same thing as the first example. And really, aren't computers the final authority?
In non-date-notation news, I took a journey to the 5th floor of the building I work in and took a photo pointing down this huge spiral staircase, all the way to the B level. Despite working there for months, I'd never been in this staircase before yesterday. I felt compelled to come back and make a daily photo of it.

Last year we lived it up at WeHo. This year, we pretty much skipped Halloween. Oh well. I did take a walk around the neighborhood a little bit and a took this photo of a rather odd jack-o-lantern. Appropriate for Los Angeles, I suppose.
In other news, I was excited to discover that my blog post about the iPhone 4S camera is the #2 Google result if you search for "iphone camera comparison". Now I just sit back and let the money roll in...
And by money I mean nothing.

I was in need of a photo today, and this brick wall caught my eye. First, because of all the cement oozing out of it and second, because there were a few spots where the paint was gone and the red brick stood out. I'm curious why the paint is gone - it almost looks like it was burned off.

A less-compelling version of the lone cyprus? I took this rule-of-thirds abiding photograph with my new circular polarizing filter. It's pretty awesome, and I hope to play around with it a little more tomorrow and in the coming weeks. I expect it will come in handy on an upcoming trip to Death Valley.

This is a wall of Heartpacks from a project called Robot Heart Stories. Check out the online gallery, there are so many awesome ones. The project was to have two school classes create the journey of a robot that crash-landed in Montreal and needed to get to Los Angeles. Then a couple of photographers actually drove the route planned out by the students and took photos along the way. The team talked at DIY Days today, where I was one of the tech support guys.
Another highlight was the premier of a mini-documentary about Caine's Arcade. It's pretty awesome - the best feel-good story I've heard in a long time. Heck yeah, I bought a fun pass.

After work I rode my bike down to the ocean before heading home. This gorgeous craftsman first caught my eye because it was catching the sunset, but then I liked it even more in contrast with the high-rise apartments behind it.
I had my fancy new polarizing filter on for this shot, but I'm not sure it really added much to this particular scene. I'm excited to finally play with it, though. I bought a 77mm filter even though I don't own any 77mm lenses, so that I could use step-down filter rings and use it on any lenses in the future. Of course, the store was out of stock of the 77-72 rings and I thought I'd buy one at a different store, but I've been so busy that I never got a chance. So finally, I bought one online and it arrived yesterday. Isn't that just the best story you've ever heard? I thought so.
By the way, I posted a bunch of photos comparing the iPhone 4 camera to the new iPhone 4S. Interested? Read all about it.
