Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

This was a pre-planned desperation shot. I had a very busy day and went out for drinks with friends/coworkers afterwards and knew I wouldn't take a lot of photos. But, I did notice that this is the two hundred and twenty-second day from my One/Day Project, Year 4, and so I looked for number that reflected that. Luckily I found the glorious National Union Catalog volumes, which apparently lists the holdings of the Library of Congress.
I'm sure you're curious, so I'll tell you - it goes up to number 754.

Tonight I played around with pencil shavings. This is the result. Why is it a pentagon? Something about the way the pencil is manufactured? Strange.

RIP, Steve. I love his bicycle analogy. In honor, I will start referring to computers as 'braincicles'. It has a better ring to it than 'braincycles'.
I was excited to head to the beach this afternoon after a very rainy day, especially for early October. It was cold and windy, but at least this guy posed for me. Not really, of course - I have no idea who he is. I'm just happy he turned to the side to make a more interesting silhouette.

Gotta love the local wildlife. For this spider photo I got in real close with my macro lens on my camera in one hand and my flash with a softbox in the other. I used the off-camera flash at 1/4 power and the on-camera flash also at 1/4 power to provide some fill in the shadows.
The rubber lens hood I bought at last weekend's aquarium shoot came in handy to block the light from the softbox going directly into the lens.
This is SOOC except for a slight crop.

This is a desperation shot where I stuck my compact in the microwave and took a photo. Obviously I didn't turn it on, you clever person, you. Our microwave is a relic from my days in the dorms - it's compact and bright orange. It looks like a toy, I can't believe it still works. It does though, and quite well.

I really didn't want to memorialize the idiot who spray painted this wall, but it is pretty funny. Apparently they should have spent more time on their spelling homework.

My wife had her own thing tonight, so I decided to pack myself a dinner and ride my bike down to Palisades Park to watch the sun set. It was pretty fun, there was a wedding party taking group shots and two guys playing bocce. As sunset turned to dusk, I noticed how cool this tree looked with the orange incandescent glow against the blue night sky. I had to wait a while so that the light from the lamp was a little brighter than the ambient light so the exposure would be balanced.
This 30-second exposure was taken about 40 minutes after sunset.

Here's another B&W, just for yous. After being warm all week, the weather decided to throw some random rain at us today. I had a very enjoyable post-storm bike ride home and stopped to take a few pictures. I've always loved this building with the brick and the windows, and this seemed like a good opportunity to photograph it.

This hinge helps hold up a huge metal grate type of door on a building near my new office. It's pretty cool, but I was having trouble capturing it in general, so I focused on a small part.
