Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

We bought this carving container in Mozambique. I'm assuming it's supposed to be a beehive. The quality is amazing, though, and you can just barely tell where the top is separated from the bottom.
It's pretty much a desperation shot - I set my compact on our dresser and moved the carving towards the wall so it would cast a bit of a shadow. I set the camera to manual so I could blow out the highlights.

My birthday isn't for a few days, but I was lucky enough to get an enormous Oreo cupcake yesterday with these candles. I just started eating it today though - I was too full on s'mores yesterday.
After eating about 2/3 of it, I set the candles on an upside-down frying pan for a photo. I melted the ends first, so I could stick them on. I didn't like the natural color much, so I dropped the white balance to 2200 degrees.

These are my Chaco-tan-lined feet at the ocean today, where we met some friends for hot dogs and s'mores. We went to Dockweiler, because it's the only beach for 40 miles that has fire pits and allows fires. We got there around noon and grabbed a pretty excellent spot.
We were really happy we got a canopy, chairs and little table - it allowed us to hang out all day, which we'd never really done before at the beach. The constant wind got a little old, though. So did the planes flying over, but that's pretty expected as Dockweiler is directly under the takeoff path for LAX.

Had the wonderful opportunity to see Leonard Nimoy speak at the Annenberg. You know, the guy who sang the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins? Sure you do.
He's a brilliant speaker and it was neat to see all his photo projects. He talked about Shekhina, Secret Selves and the Full Body Project. His talk actually finished early compared to a lot of other lecturers, but he answered a lot of questions afterwards. He's kind of a genius. And he's 80!
Anyways, right outside the space, there's a circular bench with black rocks underneath it - this is a photo of it.

From what I can tell, this is the happiest mask in the entire Tower of Masks (1961), a sculpture at UCLA that was created by Anna Mahler of Austria.

After driving by many times, I actually stopped to take a photo of this new housing construction right next to UCLA. I thought the huge mass of metal and concrete would make a good photo in general, but I was a little disappointed once I actually started trying to compose a shot. Luckily there was this giant piece of plastic draped over part of the building to add some interest. I played around quite a bit in Lightroom, mainly with the color - I like the blue tint.

Where's a baseball when you need one? I suppose the US Open is happening right now, so that kind of redeems it. This is my subtle version of 'Go USA!'
Ten years ago is a long time - so much has changed. I remember I was asleep in my dorm room, and my roommate got a call from his parents to turn on the TV. We watched, stunned as both towers fell. I remember solemnly walking off to the student union to get breakfast, where it was unusually quiet with very few people around. Most of them were crowded around a big screen showing the devastation. I remember going to a class, but it was about half full. And that's it - I don't remember many other details. Crazy.
