Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Desperation shot tonight - some sandstone coasters. I stacked them so there would be a continuous-looking line throughout all four.

![__02/19/12__ Natural Habitat
Today we went whale watching in Long Beach. We saw none. NONE! We did see a lot of dolphins, however, and this trio of sea lions basking on a buoy. Back on shore, the announcer kept telling the next group that they might "see California sea lions in their natural habitat!". Not exactly.
I was pretty unimpressed with the crew's way of dealing with no sightings - they just played it off like it was a wonderful trip because "we saw a lot of dolphins, which are actually a type of whale!" The hell with that - I didn't pay $60 to see common dolphins. At the very least, a discount on a future trip would have been nice.
It was fun, though, and we had a nice relaxing lunch afterwards. And then we went to IKEA, for no reason at all. We'd never been before, and it was crazy!!! We have not planned a return trip at this time...

I might use this shot for the dgrin challenge for "vanishing point". It's the parking garage at the Westfield Century City mall. It's a pretty crazy garage - only two levels, but practically an entire city block under the mall.

This shot is from a little photo walk around the neighborhood. There is an abandoned lot and house where I found this mirror next to a pile of junk. We've lived nearby for three years and I don't think the run-down house or overgrown lot has changed much. Maybe they're waiting to flip it when the housing market comes back to 2007 levels. Or... lazy?

Here's another UCLA sculpture, but in a completely different spot from yesterday's. This one called Anthropomorphic Echoes by Miki Benoff in 1984 in honor of Max Benoff. Her husband?
Basically, it's a pair of giant resin shapes that look quite a bit like ears. This is a shot from the backside while the sun was shining on them. It made them glow in a cool way, but also shows how dirty they are. Gotta wash behind the ears...

This is Stephanie, who is one half of the sculpture titled Stephanie and Shy. The other half a horse, which I'm assuming is the one named Shy. Neither are wearing clothes. The sculpture was created by Robert Graham in 1980-81.
I do realize this would be a highly inappropriate photo if it were of a real person. I thought the reflection was cool, though, made possible by today's rain.

This is the back of Bunche Hall at UCLA. It's neat to see a building from this vantage point in general, but it helped that I like the shape the trees created. The reflections in the tan part of the building are interesting, too.

This is our friend Katie, who agreed to be a model for me, since I needed some more shots for my Environmental Portraiture class on Monday. It worked out great - she was a wonderful model and the light was quite lovely. This shot is on the bridge over PCH that we walked over to get down to the beach. I got some good beach photos, too, but I liked this one because of the shapes and patterns and crazy backlight.
There is a large reflector (piece of white foam core) just to my left that my assistant/wife held to illuminate her face.
