Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

After a quick trip to Denver for my sister's graduation, we hopped on a plane and flew back to Los Angeles this morning. Luckily we'll see her again in 2 days, since she's staying with us for a night before flying to Hawaii - her family's gift to her. Yep, we're awesome.
Anyways, these are the Rocky Mountains, as you may have guessed. I like how the clouds are filling in all the canyons. I-70 is actually running the length of the foreground canyon that spans the image.
Like pretty much all airplane photos, I had to add a lot of contrast, and I decided to mimic the actual color by using split toning. I was seated over the wing, so I was lucky to get this view when the pilot banked to the right - otherwise the engine was in the way.

Don't they look like graduates? This is Jessica (my sister) and Lauren, who for some reason needed mustaches in order to cut the cake at their party. Don't mind the glasses, they're prescription.
My sister's house doesn't exactly have "shelter" in the backyard so in order to combat the cold rain we strung up a 15x20' tarp, assembled a 10x10' gazebo, and had a fairly large fire burning. It was a good thing we did, because the weather didn't keep many people away, it was very fun!

This is my sister, who will soon be Rev. Sister. Or something like that... she's graduating tomorrow morning from seminary with a Masters of Divinity, so my whole family is up in Denver to celebrate. We had some great Italian food downtown and gave her some gifts. If you think she looks happy now, this was before we surprised her with a trip to Hawaii. She had no idea. That's right, we're awesome.

You come across some interestingly-dressed people in LA all the time, but not usually in the airport. This fellow was waiting for a flight in Terminal 1 and kindly posed for some photos. I'm proud to say I asked him first - most people were just laughing and shooing cell phone pictures as they walked by. He said he was trying to be an inspiration to the girls on how to dress...
I think my favorite part is the 'I *heart* GIRLS' choker.

This is a delicious farmers market almond with some peanut butter and a chocolate-covered cocoa nib (from Trader Joe's) on top. It was delicious. I ate many.

This morning I attended a software demo on the 33rd floor of this building in downtown LA. I got there early, so I walked around and took some photos with my phone. Conditions were great with the partly cloudy skies, but the iPhone definitely had some trouble with the repeating patterns of the windows - it's pretty grainy if you look at it full size.
I chose to make it a B&W since the most interesting things are the shapes, not the colors.

Tonight my wife took this brain and cooked it in a bot of poiling water, turning it green. She then proceeded to eat it layer by layer, dipping it into belted mutter. I was pretty desperate for a photo today, so I grabbed this mini artichoke and tossed it in the phot for the poto.
Please note: I may have mixed up one or more words or letters. It's late of kind and I'm a tired little.

This morning my wife and I got up before dawn so we could take in the ocean at the Santa Monica Pier, and maybe I'd sneak in a photo or two. My favorite shot is of these mussels and... scaly things (also a type of mussel? I don't know) that were clinging onto one of the pylons. The tide was obviously low, but on its way back in, so I got a bit wet. Is it me, or do some of them really look like beaks?

UPDATE: Thanks to Stan - the scaly things are called Gooseneck Barnacles. They have a Wikipedia page, so you know he's telling the truth :)
