Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Impressive attention to detail earned the 'Lunch Ladeez' the people's choice award at today's Edible Book Festival. The book they based their treats on was Food Trucks by Heather Shouse, which basically gave them license to create anything food-related. Their entry included the lo mein, burger with fries and coffee you see here as well as several others. I can't believe how many of them they made.
Other awesome entries included a skull, barbies, a tooth and an actual wedding cake. I'll just let your imagination go and guess which books those were based on.
It was fun. It was tasty. Just like 2 years ago.

Well, I've made it through the first month of the fourth year of this crazy project. I hope tomorrow is full of foolery for you.
This shot is two buildings along Wilshire Boulevard. I was in a building a across the street where my wife got LASIK today - thanks for all the well-wishes from yesterday's photo! The surgery went well and now she's busy napping, just like they told her to.
The staff were really cool: I not only got to sit in and watch the surgery but I got to take photos, too! None of them were particularly flattering or interesting, so I will not share them here, sorry. It was very interesting to see the surgeon and support staff work, although I cringed a few times with all the poking and prodding going on.

![_03/30/11_ Pretty Eyes
I shot this photo of my wife wearing her glasses tonight. I propped up my white presentation board and bounced my flash off it while she sat under it. I processed quite a bit in Lightroom - I like the moody look here.
This photo is significant, because tomorrow we're paying a man several thousand dollars to cut a slice in her eyeball, peel it back and shoot lasers into it. That's right, my wife is getting LASIK, or "laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis" after wearing glasses or contacts since she was a child. She's pretty excited.
UPDATE: Thanks for all the well-wishes! I've passed them along...
UPDATE 2: The surgery went great! Glasses-free the next morning!

For some reason, I really wanted to take a freeway photo today. This is the 10, or "Interstate Ten" or "I-10" as some people call it. Apparently folks from outside Southern California get annoyed when we personify our roads. Or is it objectify? Or something else? I don't know, but that's how people talk here.
Anyways, this was taken in Santa Monica at the 17th Street bridge, close to where it ends and turns into PCH or "Pacific Coast Highway."

While walking along the bluffs in Santa Monica this afternoon, we came across this awesome agave flower stalk that explodes in red flowers. I walked around it a bit and settled on this as the most interesting angle, mostly because I could isolate it against the ocean and sky. Everywhere else there were buildings or trees that would have been in the shot. Because of the harsh sun, I had to use fill-flash to bring up the shadows - otherwise they were all black.

Today was a one-photo day. I took the shot at the farmers market this morning - this vendor had a huge pile of huge leeks.
Later in the day we watched basketball and were a little bummed to see the UA lose to UConn after playing such an amazing game on Thursday. Oh well, I'm sure Derek Williams will stick around to lead the Wildcats to a championship next year... right?
After basketball, we demolished a stupid decorative glass wall in our bathroom. We still have some work to do, but I'm absolutely exhausted. Maybe I'm getting old - I should be giddy at the prospect of smashing things with a hammer.

I braved the cold wind and went to the beach this afternoon around sunset to take some photos. I really was not expecting this tennis ball to be the most compelling shot I took, but those ripples are just crazy cool looking. I actually looked around for an object more interesting or natural than a tennis ball - heck, a rock would have been nice - but this was all I saw.
Other highlights included a golf ball, cool sand formations from the last storm and a dead seagull. It was... not the most exciting trip to the beach.

Yes! Go UofA!!! Elite Eight, Baby!!!
10 years ago we lost to Duke in the Championship game. I was a student at UA at the time, watching the game at McKale Center. Since then, we've waited for redemption and finally got it tonight! We DESTROYED Duke in the 2nd half! It was amazing! Sir Charles is apparently an oracle! Yes! Bear Down!
Also, I took a photo of a chocolate croissant. It was tasty.
