Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

These purple flowers came in a bouquet we got two weeks ago - I'm surprised how they've held up. For this shot I put them on our wood table and lit from behind with a snoot on the flash to direct the light. Unfortunately it illuminated all the tiny dust particles on the table, even after I wiped it off. I'm pretty happy with the reflection though.
I've been playing with lighting using my flash a lot recently, because I'm attending the Flash Bus Tour in a couple weeks. I'm excited!

These purple flowers came in a bouquet we got two weeks ago - I'm surprised how they've held up. This flower is carved out of soft wood, yet is impressively realistic. It made its debut in the One/Day Project back in Year 2, but I spent a bit more time on this shot. Sadly but not unexpectedly, the color has faded a lot since I gave it to my wife at our engagement. It was originally bright orange. In Lightroom, I converted to B&W, dropped the background to black and added a split toning effect.
Here's a setup photo. I sure have gotten my money's worth out of that presentation foam board.

This plant is a flower-berry heath (Erica baccans), according to the little plaque next to it. I've had my eye on it for a while - it looks so cool! The tiny needle-like leaves and the little pink flowers are very unique. The flowers grow in groups of four that look like... candy, I guess. They eventually develop into these little ball things that are tiny with a lot of interesting details.
I took many shots like this to get the focus right. It was difficult searching around the plant for a part that I could isolate against more pink flowers in the background and was still interesting.

Part 2 of my lily mutiliation. Today I cut off the pistil, leaving only the anthers. Here's a setup photo for the lighting.
I like how the filaments appear to be glowing. FYI, I tend to refer to this diagram when I forget what flower parts are what.
