Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

![_11/21/11_ Dynamic Rhythms
I took this while waiting for my lovely wife to pick me up from work. It's a sculpture by Fletcher Benton in 1976 called Dynamic Rhythms Orange (Phase III). It's pretty cool, and like many sculptures in the garden, hard to photograph. It's just hard to find an interesting angle without distracting background elements. In this case, the only part of the photo that isn't the sculpture is the grass behind it. I admit I added some contrast and saturation, but I do like how the reflected colors turned out - blue on the right from the sky and green on the left from the grass.

![_11/20/11_ Hanging Succulents
Wow, I could barely walk today. Yesterday's 15 mile urban 'hike' really did a number on my feet. It was fun though! We'll just have to train a little harder for next year's walk. More photos from yesterday are coming soon, btw.
Besides the limping, it was pouring rain for most of the day, so this is actually the only photo I took. It's one of many hanging succulent planters at Kreation Kafe, where we went with some friends for an organic lunch. It was really tasty and not super-expensive even though it's on Montana Avenue.

Today my wife and I joined a couple hundred other people at the wonderfully hideous Triforium sculpture near City Hall on the sixth annual Great Los Angeles Walk. This year, the walk went down Temple to Vermont, then up to Hollywood, over to Fairfax and then down Santa Monica all the way to the ocean - 19.5 miles. Unfortunately, our legs and feet weren't quite up to the task, so we hopped on a bus 4.5 miles from the ocean. But before the horrible pain set in, we had a great time and saw things we never would have otherwise, especially because we were on foot the entire time. It's such a fun idea and I'm really happy we did it.
I have a lot of photos from the walk, but I liked this one for it's simplicity and the cool splotchy clouds. I'll be sharing more soon.

This fountain is taking a bubble bath. The camera was steadied by a nifty Manfrotto pocket series support thingy. I have an older one - the newer ones look pretty slick.

This is a Sylvania P25 flash bulb, for use with equipment that was rendered obsolete long ago. I used my slightly-newer SB800 to take this shot - it has an 8" snoot on it and is positioned behind the bulb to the right. I used my macro lens at f/20 to try and get a lot of the magnesium filaments in focus. I wasn't expecting the star, that was a nice bonus. The blue tint is part of the bulb to give it more of a daylight white balance, I did not add it.

Well I stayed home sick for the 2nd day, but I was feeling well enough to walk around the neighborhood in search of a daily photo this afternoon. I found this grate next to a big azalea bush, so I sacrificed of the flowers for the sake of art and positioned it like you see here. I was able to hold the camera against the concrete surrounding the grate to get a fairly sharp shot at 1/6s so I didn't have to use a high ISO.

I decided to go through some of my mom's dad's slides that I inherited after he passed away a couple years ago. Apparently they took a trip to Yosemite in October of 1952, just over 59 years ago - before my mom was even born. Many of you will recognize this slide as Tunnel View, although the scene is flipped so I could photograph the side of the slide that said 'Kodachrome'. Nearly everyone that visits Yosemite probably took a photo like this. I know I did.
I actually didn't spend much time looking through slides, although this one certainly caught my eye. Mostly, I was figuring out how to put together the Viewlex Change-O-Matic slide projector. I'm a little afraid to plug it in for fear of the 50-year-old 300-watt bulb exploding, but I'll get around to it. Expect to hear more about that eventually - I can get at least another daily photo or two out of it.

With the afternoon light coming in from the right, I really liked the complexity of the lights and shapes in this photo. I'm not sure my phone really does it justice... but with night coming so soon thanks to stupid daylight savings time, I find myself taking what I can get in the daytime.

Wow, my legs are tired. My wife and I walked to the end of the Venice Beach pier from our house today - about 10 miles round trip. We did it in anticipation of a 19-mile walk next weekend - The Great Los Angeles Walk. We have a friend that's done the walk before, but this will be our first time. During it's short existence the walk has gone from downtown to the ocean, using various routes. This year is mostly along Hollywood and Santa Monica boulevards.
Near the beginning of the walk, I took this picture of the bluffs in Santa Monica along PCH. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to shower and put my feet up.
