Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

_04/18/12_ Grainy Bouquet
These are some flowers my wife bought on Saturday. The harsh overhead light is from our stove hood and the background is a piece of black foam board. I set my camera on a tripod and set the aperture to f/1.4 for a shallow depth of field and overall soft look.
Then I went a little crazy and actually added some artificial film grain. Whoa! Somebody stop me!

_04/17/12_ Free Flow
This piece is a commentary on extremism and our polarized society. There seems to be such little area for compromise, and there's so much fighting back and forth in what appears to be an endless cycle.
Nah, I'm just kidding, it's the end of a pipe snake that we use to clean festering hair clumps from the drain. But still...

_04/16/12_ Peppermint
This is a piece of candy that spent some time in my pocket, then on my desk, and now it's in the trash, because I don't really like peppermint candy. And that's the end of that story.
Did you see my Chicago photos? Most of the things we did were part of the CityPass, so I mentioned them in a tweet after the gallery uploaded and they RTed it and also posted it on their FB page. It got 5 likes. That means I'm special, right?

_04/15/12_ Well Protected
I'm not sure why this exit sign needs such a dense cage over it. It's the only photo I took today - I'm still a bit sick. I thought I was doing better yesterday, but this illness just keeps going back and forth... very annoying.

_04/14/12_ Twist
This is the top of an awesome sculpture called Gestation III, by Baile Oakes, which sits in Palisades Park in Santa Monica. I haven't witnessed it, but apparently at the winter solstice the sun shines right through the center of it as it sets over the ocean. I took a photo of it in Year 3, too.
I hope Sammy and Tammy are very happy together.

_04/13/12_ Wet Tile
Thanks for the well wishes, I am still recovering, but certainly doing better than the past few days. I took a short walk in the late afternoon and grabbed this photo. It rained like crazy today, and fortunately I was inside for most of it. There was actual thunder! Very rare for Los Angeles.

Another sick day, another desperation shot. Sigh.
This is a candle we got in Africa. It was actually a desperation purchase, so to speak. We bought it solely to use up the rest of our rand (South Africa's currency), before boarding our flight back to the US.

This is a plastic stirrer that came in a drink, with a cherry stuck on the end. We got a pair during dinner at the actual building, 11 days ago.
I'm still sick, so another desperation shot is all you get, sorry. Better than yesterday, though!

_04/11/12_ Shiny Bug
Hey guess what?! I finally installed LR4 today and used it to edit and upload this photo! I haven't played with it much, but I do appreciate that the interface isn't terribly different, and that Jeffrey Friedl's plugin still works, although I did have to re-register it and pass a few more dollars his way. Money well spent.
In other Lightroom-related news, I'm almost done with my Chicago photos, so keep an eye out for that gallery.
This photo is of a Volkswagen Beetle that I found parked on the side of the road. It was exceptionally shiny, and the road was lined with palm trees, so I thought it would make a good reflective subject. I came upon it on a short walk around my neighborhood. I got a little lightheaded, but I am feeling better than yesterday and Tuesday!
