Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

This is a sea urchin skeleton from somewhere in the South Pacific. That's what the lady who sold it to me said, anyways, and I have no reason to doubt someone that sells things.
I lit it from above with a single off-camera flash with a softbox, and had a couple pieces of folded paper as reflectors to fill in light on the underside. In Lightroom, I painted out all the non-black stuff until I had a purely black background.

I'm sticking with my black background, minimalist lighting thing, apparently. Today's subject is a small Buddha figurine we got from a friend while she was in Thailand. In a good example of how small the world is, my parents were actually in Thailand at the same time. They got us something, too, and I also took a photo of it.

A crazy flower that was part of a bouquet I got at the farmers market. The flowers started at the top and are working their way down. It's quite impressive. I have no idea what plant it is.

A fleet of cement trucks. I like that the front-most pipe is the only really shiny one. I also like that Santa Monica has a cement plant. Despite the fancy beaches and high-end shopping, it's a real city with its own industrial areas.

A tasty farmers market blueberry. I set it on our black glass stovetop, misted it, and lit it from a direct off-camera flash mounted on a gorillapod for a few extra inches of height. The best photos are those you can eat.

Also, happy Olympics! The opening ceremony was tonight and it was ... not so great. At least not watching it on NBC. It made me thing back to Beijing - I was in Tucson at the time, and watched it with my family. At some point, I stepped outside to take a photo of this.
