3 remarkably cold days in New Orleans. Took a plantation tour, did a lot of walking around the Central Business District and French Quarter, ate lots of Southern cooking and only did a modest amount of drinking. I swear!

__02/09/11__ Blanca Peak
New Orleans, Day 1
Day zero, really, since we spent all of the daylight hours traveling, thanks to a plane malfunction that left us in St. Louis for 4 hours instead of 1.
The highlight of the day was flying over the Western US at sunrise. I like the rugged scenery at midday, so seeing the early morning light was a special treat. This shot was taken later in the morning, but I think it still looks pretty cool. Somewhere in Colorado, I believe.

Update: The tallest mountain in the foreground is Blanca Peak, and the range is the Sangre de Christo mountains - a subrange of the Rockies. The grayish-brown spot nestled in the curve of the range is Great Sand Dunes National Park.
See a cooler closeup of the peak in my New Orleans gallery.

Covered in snow... still not very exciting.
Abandoned Power Plant
New Orleans
South of the convention center lies this imposing power plant, in ruins and fenced off.

Most of the lower level windows are broken and huge steel plates have been welded over the doorways.

For this shot, I had to take the lens off the camera to fit it through a fence. I don't think they did any cleanup after Katrina, they just sealed it off.
