Sequoia/King's Canyon | May 09 - #

Memorial Day weekend camping trip to King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. We camped at the Princess campground in Sequoia Nat'l Forest, just off route 180.

We got to the Princess Campground in Sequoia National Forest close to midnight, thanks to heavy traffic on the 5 near Santa Clarita. It was wonderful to wake up in the forest and walk around in the quiet morning.

Snow Plant
You see these in spring time in mountains in CA, OR and NV. They have a codependent relationship with large conifers. I had no idea what they were at first, so it was a neat surprise to see them popping up everywhere.

Deer
Saw this young stag on the trail to Mist Falls at the end of the 180 in King's Canyon. Some stupid kids behind us actually said "Whoa, is that a bobcat?" when they first saw it. We didn't respond...

King's Canyon Reflection
The part of the canyon where we hiked is glacier-caved, so it's a nice wide valley with amazing steep, rocky cliffs on either side.

Bailey Bridge
This is as far as we went - we didn't make it to Mist Falls. I blame the altitude... ?
This is the only place to cross King's River for a few miles, so it's a popular spot to rest and eat lunch, which we did.

There was a peaceful feeling being right next to the water, even though the river is very powerful this time of year.
