Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

__02/27/13__ Bee on Flower
It's my annual bee-on-flower photo, in honor of my first daily photo ever! I've made a point to go back around the end of every year to get a similar photo in tribute. I was successful for years 1-3, but last year it didn't work out because there were simply no bees- so I was happy it worked out today! This isn't the cherry tree, but a much smaller pink-blossomed plant nearby.
And now we have 364 photos in this gallery - stay tuned for #365! And then it's on to Year 6...

__02/10/13__ Sandpipers in Sync
There were hundreds upon hundreds of sandpipers at the beach today, and I got this in-motion photo of a small fraction of them as they ran away from an incoming wave. The group behavior was mesmerizing.

_10/18/12_ Bug on Cactus
I took my fancy rented 105mm macro lens out to the botanical gardens today and found this bug. Not sure what it is, but it seemed familiar. I'm trying to use the lens as much as possible before Sunday, when I'll be taking it to the Aquarium of the Pacific for their photographer's night, which is a lot of fun.

_09/18/12_ Pursuit
Apparently there was some sort of pursuit that ended near our house today, so a couple of news helicopters hovered for at least 15 minutes and ruined our How I Met Your Mother rerun we were watching on TV. This is one of said helicopters. And some birds on a power line.
Technically, it's a pretty awful photo - not really up to my standards. For some reason my camera was set to ISO 800 and it's a bit blurry at 1/125s. But as I've said many a time - oh well.

[last year] another year...
_08/04/12_ Urchin Skeleton
This is a sea urchin skeleton from somewhere in the South Pacific. That's what the lady who sold it to me said, anyways, and I have no reason to doubt someone that sells things.
I lit it from above with a single off-camera flash with a softbox, and had a couple pieces of folded paper as reflectors to fill in light on the underside. In Lightroom, I painted out all the non-black stuff until I had a purely black background.

[last year] some of the coolest stuff I've ever seen...
_07/17/12_ Seagull
Take at the Santa Monica Pier. This young seagull let me get surprisingly close before pooping on the wood plank. Then it flew away.
Please note that this is a fairly wide angle shot - my S95 was zoomed all the way out. I was only a few feet away from the seagull when I took it.
Did you take note? Are you impressed?
