Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

__02/10/13__ Sandpipers in Sync
There were hundreds upon hundreds of sandpipers at the beach today, and I got this in-motion photo of a small fraction of them as they ran away from an incoming wave. The group behavior was mesmerizing.

_12/28/12_ Quail
A metal quail on my mom-in-law's back gate. Composed for simplicity.
This is my first daily photo taken with my new iPhone 5! I'm very excited about it, although I won't be able to do the same phone-by-phone comparison like I've done in the past. Many more iPhone 5 photos coming soon...

_09/18/12_ Pursuit
Apparently there was some sort of pursuit that ended near our house today, so a couple of news helicopters hovered for at least 15 minutes and ruined our How I Met Your Mother rerun we were watching on TV. This is one of said helicopters. And some birds on a power line.
Technically, it's a pretty awful photo - not really up to my standards. For some reason my camera was set to ISO 800 and it's a bit blurry at 1/125s. But as I've said many a time - oh well.

_07/17/12_ Seagull
Take at the Santa Monica Pier. This young seagull let me get surprisingly close before pooping on the wood plank. Then it flew away.
Please note that this is a fairly wide angle shot - my S95 was zoomed all the way out. I was only a few feet away from the seagull when I took it.
Did you take note? Are you impressed?

_05/20/12_ Eclipse
Did you see the eclipse? As you can see here, we got a pretty cool view of it in Santa Monica. The marine layer started rolling in right as the moon was reaching its peak coverage of the sun, and you could clearly see the eclipse with your naked eyes.
I walked around the neighborhood looking for something to put the eclipse in context, and found this mockingbird perched on a church building with a bug in its mouth. Tasty.

Cold Pigeons
This eternal flame is in honor of lives lost during WWI, WWII and the Korean and Vietnam wars. I'm sure the pigeons respect that.
Man, Fish, Gull
A seagull (lakegull?) decided to join the man and fish outside the Shedd aquarium. It's a pretty odd sculpture in general, but the gull definitely added to it.
