Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

I was in Venice today to get a lovely and overdue haircut, and this sign was in a nearby parking lot. The sun was perfectly highlighting the cracked surface.

2013-05-05 Saltrim
A ghostly abstract of a black, salt-rimmed shot glass. I did not drink out of it, but we did have margaritas tonight. Yay for underdog military victories.

2013-05-04 Meier Column
This column is at the entrance to the Getty Center, which was designed by Richard Meier. It's an amazing place, and every time I'm there I tell myself I should go back more often.
We went this afternoon mostly to see a site-specific dance performance which was quite impressive.

2013-04-13 Graceful Curves
A high-contrast photo of the 10E/405N interchange, which we had to use to make our way to the Burbank IKEA store. We're on the hunt for a sleeper sofa but since most of what IKEA makes is crap, we did not get anything. We did eat have a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant nearby so it was OK and worth the trip, despite the annoying stretch pictured here.

2013-04-04 Cloud Demon
I love what fun shapes come out of simple symmetry. My favorite I've done is this one from San Diego. Today's is clouds - they looked cool and I need a photo, but then flipped it around to make this mirror image version, after deciding it was the coolest arrangement.

2013-03-31 Water Cross
Happy Easter!
We bought some plants today at a nursery that was right next to the Chinese Baptist Church of West LA (CBCWLA), featuring this awesome cross fountain.

2013-03-15 Water Shapes
I made this image by spinning a glass of water around and pointing my camera at it while the off-camera flash fired. It's no Clark Little, but I do like the look of the water. It's quite a desperation shot, I feel like there's a lot of potential here - different liquids, different spinning vessels, different backgrounds, color, multiple flashes...

2013-03-13 Heavy Fog
This morning was one of those ultra-thick fog days, which we don't get too often. This view is looking down my street; you could only see about half a block.
Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's photo - I had fun making it and I'm glad y'all like it.

In other news, I am now enrolled in Photojojo University! In a couple weeks I'll be starting Phoneography 101 with Professor Pancake. For reals. Want to join me? Just go to the Photojojo Store and buy the class - it's only $5, so why not?

2013-03-12 Grasping
Waaaaaay too much work went into this.
My computer handled the rather large all-RAW 36-layer Photoshop file quite nicely, though, so that was cool. My old iMac would have exploded, I'm quite certain.
