Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > __02/26/10__ Bee on Blossom Well, it's that time of year again. My first daily photo was a bee on a cherry blossom, and I shot the same subject last 2/27. I had to get the shot today (Friday) since the tree the provides these pretty flowers is at work. The bees were not very busy today so I spent a lot of time taking shots, trying to get nearly every bee that passed by. Out of 200 or so (half were blurry) I like this one the best - apparently bees have eye hairs? Weird. Cheers! [last year]

Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > 2/27/09 365 days ago, I took my first daily photo of a bee and some cherry blossoms. Now that a year has passed and the same tree is in bloom again, I decided to try the same thing! I like the exposure on this - I used my SB800 for some extra lighting, which definitely got rid of some hard shadows from the noon sunlight. I also like the interesting pose of the bee, like she's circling the flower or something. I started my dailies on leap day (2/29) so that's why I still have one more day to go before I complete my full year. Hopefully I'll have a super-amazing photo tomorrow to close out the year, but no promises. You can't force art, right? :)

This is a floss silk tree blossom (Ceiba speciosa, native to Brazil and Argentina) in a pile of boring decaying leaves from other plants in the UCLA botanical gardens. The ground under this tree is covered in these pink petals, which is kind of surreal. I also took a macro shot of another fallen blossom.
Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > 9/17/08 Another quick end-of-the-day shot with my compact. These tiny yellow flowers are blanketing my front yard right now, from our flamegold (Koelreuteria elegans) tree, native to Taiwan and Fiji. The top of the tree is covered in yellow, it's quite pretty. Maybe I'll get a shot of the whole tree for another daily.

Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > 3/7/08 This will probably not be the last cherry blossoms or bee photo I will post here, but as long as they are all different, that's OK, right? Cherry trees are only flamboyant for a short time, so I gotta get photos while I can.
