Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_10/01/12_ Crown
I'm worth more than I was yesterday, because I am now partially made of gold. Whoopee!
I don't think I've ever done a daily photo at the dentist, but I wasn't letting this one get away. If you've had a crown before, you know that the prep is not fun. Due to my tooth being the farthest back and decayed more than expected, I basically had to go through that twice - two 2-3 hour appointments about 3 weeks apart. Today I got the temporary removed and the real one put on, so I hope to not go back to the dentist for many months. Many, many months.

I have a feeling this sign hasn't been changed since the building was built.

_06/04/12_ They Don't Live Here Anymore
Here's an odd case of mailboxes persisting long after their owners' building has been demolished. My theory is that they decided to leave them up, rather than fix the hole in the fence that would occur if they took them out. Still, pretty weird.
I'm extra happy about this one because it's a second chance photo. I took a photo of these mailboxes on Saturday, and it might have been the photo of the day except my phone focused on the background instead of the mailboxes, even though the mailboxes took up 90% of the image. Today, while riding my bike home, I realized I was right next to this spot again, so I made a short detour to get a photo. In addition, this turned out to be a much better photo than the one I tried to take on Saturday.

Although this photo is ripe with double entendre, the actual scene was pretty boring. It's a construction site near Wilshire/Sepulveda, and there are a bunch of metal things stacked on top of each other, leaving holes in between, and they all had 2x4s in them. They've been there for months, and the gate for the site is always open and no one is ever there. It's a little strange. Not a lot. But a little.

Happy Arizona statehood centennial! Despite its recent legislative horribleness, it's still home.
But wait. What's that? I actually took a totally cheesy and cliche photo for Valentine's Day? And then made it pink?? What's going on?!? I guess I'm just feeling the love.

This sculpture/fountain was created by George Tsutakawa in 1969. It's also featured in this photo of the day. It's cool. I like it.
As I said in the 9/22 photo, I want to come back and do something super-cool with my dSLR. One thing I don't like about this photo is the distracting background - because I used the smallest aperture to blur the water, everything is in sharp focus. This fountain would look so cool with a seamless background... not sure how to make that happen...

Update - people like it! Thanks for the comments, I guess an argument could be made in favor of the sharp background :)

Almost forgot - read my blog post about Death Valley iPhoneography.

I really didn't want to memorialize the idiot who spray painted this wall, but it is pretty funny. Apparently they should have spent more time on their spelling homework.
I also like that the cardboard box was for Jack Pot brand canned bamboo shoots. It's random all around.

This is probably more computers than most people will ever see in one place. These lovely folks hiding behind a wall of laptops are helping to get them ready to release into the 'wild' as part of a huge laptop lending program. These things have all but taken over my life between the hours of 8-5 and I will be happy to get rid of this giant wall of them.
You have to admit though, it's pretty awesome to build a fort out of laptops.
