Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_12/19/12_ Me Ornament
So this is me, sort of. On the back of this fancy egg ornament is my name and birth year. I took a photo of it as it hung on my parents' Christmas tree. It was actually kind of difficult because it kept spinning away from the light.

_05/27/12_ Face Sculpting
I started watching a Lynda.com course about night and low light photography, so I headed down to the Santa Monica pier to try some of it out. I definitely got some cool photos, although it's hard to remember the techniques while also searching out good photos.
One thing that stuck with me - find the good light, and then work with it. In this photo, the bright overhead light in between the sculpter and sculptee offered some drama to the scene, and so I took several shots of it.
The kid looked very cold and not particularly happy. This is why people only smile for the camera, and not the paintbrush. Or... whatever people use to mold clay. You just can't stay happy sitting still.

Swimmer
I thought the only aquatic iguanas were on the Galapagos, but this was part of the Amazon exhibit. It was very well done, but the aquarium was so ridiculously packed with bodies that it was hard to see a lot.
Blue Shirt
Racetrack Playa
This kid was part of a large family that was pretty spread out between the parking area and the Grandstand. His shirt matches the sky so nicely. I wanted to get a photo of him standing, but I guess it was time to sit down.
Lost Boys
Racetrack Playa
I thought this was cute. These two boys are walking across the Racetrack playa towards the Grandstand.
But, you can imagine them heading off on their own adventure, like in some coming-of-age movie.
Curious
Soweto
This cute kid watched us from his yard.
Shirt?
This was yet another kid that wanted his photo taken - he came out of nowhere and disappeared right afterwards. Sometimes I showed the people their photos on the back of the camera, but few seemed to care that much - they just wanted their photo taken.
At first I thought he was holding up a book, but upon closer inspection it appears to be a men's dress shirt. Ok, sure.
Hey You
Far, far below the road was a kid trying to get our attention - he saw the camera. Of course we took his photo, but I was hoping he would do something interesting.
Kids and Dogs
These kids also saw the camera and wanted their photo taken with their dogs. Too bad the kid on the left was busy with canine management.
