Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-19 Old Brick Building
These two buildings are near the Trader Joe's where we got some food today. The metal panels on the left building were what caught my eye, but I ended up just using it to fill half the frame (yes, it's lined up perfectly in the middle) with a grainy reflection of the building on the right.

2013-05-10 Hammer Stripe
The Hammer Museum in Westwood features bold horizontal stripes of white and black marble. I liked this photo because of the various streetlights reflecting off of it, taken right around sunset.

2013-05-04 Meier Column
This column is at the entrance to the Getty Center, which was designed by Richard Meier. It's an amazing place, and every time I'm there I tell myself I should go back more often.
We went this afternoon mostly to see a site-specific dance performance which was quite impressive.

2013-04-16 Blue Filtered
Desperation shot of the fence-type-thing around the federal building near UCLA. I used the high-contrast blue filter in Lightroom to darken the grass. I really need to use my big camera again...

2013-04-09 Spray
This is the shot I got while thinking about my 3rd Phoneography 101 assignment about lighting. The challenge was to get something backlit...
I admit the photo is kind of random...

2013-04-05 Woman Walker
Like last year, today was the fun Edible Book Festival at the UCLA Library. I took photos, but I'm not choosing any as my photo of the day. Instead, what you're seeing here is a performance of Trisha Brown's Man Walking Down the Side of a Building, which in this case was performed by a woman - Amelia Rudolph.
Obviously it was neat to see someone lowered down the side of the building, but the way she appeared to be casually walking in slow motion was really something. You could tell by her face when she reached the bottom that it was no easy feat, although she made it look easy. I also liked the crowd in front that was all laying on the grass looking up at her. Not a bad turnout for a Friday afternoon, but then again, how often do you get a chance to see something like this?

2013-03-08 Shiny Building
Taken right around sunset after a "wacky" weather day as the LA Times put it. Mostly it rained, but it cleared up in time for sunset.

__02/20/13__ Conform
Adventurous architecture is not something you'd expect from a federal government building, and this building on Wilshire sure doesn't rock the boat.
I walked up close to the building so the fanning effect (?) of the vertical lines was pronounced. I made sure one of the lines was right in the center of the photo. Black and white seemed like a natural choice... one I've been making a lot lately.
