Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

A fountain at the Westfield mall in Century City. I grabbed dinner there before heading to the Annenberg to see Ben Lowy give a talk. He's done some really amazing conflict work, and has been a pioneer by using his iPhone as a legitimate photojournalism tool. He also curses much more than the average presenter, so that was fun, too!
While not photojournalism, I did use an iPhone to take this photo of the water. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the comments on yesterday's daisy photo. I can see how the misting might be a little overdone but I actually like it, because it wasn't really supposed to look natural in general. I appreciate the feedback, though!

Tonight I saw Stanley Smith talk at the Annenberg. It was neat, he does some pretty crazy composites, and it inspired me to try some things. I generally stick to single images, but hey, I should challenge myself.
This photo was taken right outside the Annenberg, it's the mirror-image Century Plaza Towers. I've taken their picture before. This effect is from holding the camera steady before zooming in, kind of like this recent photo. I took a bunch, this was the best one.

I might use this shot for the dgrin challenge for "vanishing point". It's the parking garage at the Westfield Century City mall. It's a pretty crazy garage - only two levels, but practically an entire city block under the mall.

I'm not sure what you call these things, but there was a whole table of them at the Sony store at the mall in Century City. It's set up specifically for you to test their cameras so I obliged, but with my phone. Remarkably, the Microsoft store was way cooler than the Sony store. The Apple store still puts those carbon copies to shame, and all three are within about 100 feet of each other.
Then we saw Harry Potter v7.2, which was pretty cool. Did you hear there's a book about it? Who knew?

UPDATE: Thanks sharkbayte! They are called DUNNY - buy them here.

I went to the Annenberg tonight to see Andrew Southam speak about his career in photographing beautiful women. It was pretty interesting, and I'm eager to go back and see the entire Beauty Culture exhibition.
I took this shot of someone coming down the escalator - the light coming from behind them is the reflection of the afternoon sun off of another building at just the right angle.

This is the interior of the CAA building in Century City. It also made an appearance on 5/27/10.
As usual, I was here for a lecture at the Annenberg Space for Photography. Tonight was Stephen O'Meara, who travels around the world with his wife Donna, observing volcanoes. Their theory is that volcanic activity is tied to the lunar cycle, and they've observed countless eruptions that peak at the same time as the maximum tide. It was really interesting and I'm happy that in a few cases that theory has actually saved lives. Unfortunately there is a negative stigma in the scientific community regarding anything to do with the moon, so not all vulcanologists are on board.
I'm planning on going to the next 2 or 3 lectures, so hopefully I'll have more good reports to give.

Went to the Annenberg tonight to see Stanley Greene give a talk. That guy sure has been places and seen things that I probably never will, and don't really want to. I'm really glad people like him are out there doing it, though. He just got back from Haiti.
These are the Century Plaza Towers, which you probably can tell are symmetrical. They look neat, I took a photo of them...

_05/27/10_ CAA Afternoon
Tonight I saw a lecture at the Annenberg: David Griffin, the new executive editor for electronic publishing at National Geographic. He was formerly the photographic director, and he gave a great talk about the inner workings of the magazine, how the stories develop, and how photographers deal with the unexpected. Talks are on Thursday nights, 6:30-8pm and include a Q&A. Here's the calendar. Oh, and it's free of course.
In this photo, the Annenberg is up the stairs on the right and out of view. The incredibly opulent building I'm standing in houses the CAA. You know the money-grubbing, suit-wearing, short-tempered, over-caffeinated Hollywood agent stereotype? This is where they work.
