Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Here's a construction scene I snapped on my bike ride home. It's part of the 405 widening project - it looks like they're just building a big wall at this section. I liked the single color, the texture, the vertical rods... all that stuff. I tend to like construction scenes, although I feel a little silly taking photos of them sometimes. I'm sure all the cars passing by were wondering what was so interesting about it.

Yet another awesome staircase at UCLA. With so many different multi-story buildings, you see a lot of cool staircases. For some reason I'm really drawn to them. I didn't not realize how much like an eye this looks like until I looked at the shot afterwards. Crazy.

I thought it was strange that this pipe actually was slanted - the camera was level. It caught my eye because the color of the pipe so closely matches the color of the wall.

This is a detail shot of a sculpture depicting Lot's Wife, from the Biblical book of Genesis. Lot was told by some angels to get the heck out of Sodom, because God was about to destroy it. He left with only his wife and daughters, but his wife looked back after explicitly being told not to, and BAM! She's a pillar of salt. Read it for yourself - Genesis 19:26.
I'm fairly certain this sculpture is made of concrete and not salt. I should have licked it to confirm.

This is a scene from the Los Angeles Zoo. Not the one that currently houses animals, but the old one that was open from 1912 through 1965. According to the sign, this and the other structures were built by the WPA in the 1930s. They're pretty pitiful by today's standards - lots of metal bars and concrete. Many of the cages seem shockingly small, but then again, I have no idea what animals were living in any particular enclosure. In general, though, they're definitely smaller than any zoo I've been to. It's a fascinating place to explore, and makes you really appreciate modern facilities.
This particular photo was taken in one of the larger exhibits, which I assume held big cats or bears. These stairs led up from the public view, up to where the animals presumably slept at night and got fed.

It rained today, for most of the day. About an hour or so before sunset, it had partially cleared and the sun came out from time to time. For about 5 minutes, there was absolutely gorgeous light, but I wasn't in a place to get a good photo of anything, sadly. I took this shot after the sun went behind clouds for the last time today, but they sky was still very bright and caused quite a contrast reflecting off the wet sidewalk. I liked the symmetry and the varying levels of softness and reflection on the path. Or something like that. You know what I mean.
