Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

The final two out of a dozen cupcakes that my wife took to work today. Lit with 2 off-camera flashes.

_03/25/12_ Afternoon Treat
Man, I am sore after yesterday's food-packing, box-loading extravaganza. Coffee helped a bit. It also helped warm me up - it's been very cold and rainy all day. There was even some thunder! (A very rare occurrence in Los Angeles).
This beautiful cappuccino and hazelnut pastry were purchased and consumed at Intelligentsia. With all the rain, it just felt right to be a coffee snob.

[last year] all washed up...

This, my friends, is pie. Perhaps you've had some? It's good stuff. We tried (and failed) to get some pie on Monday because apparently it was National Pie Day. Well, my awesome wife picked up this and a rhubarb pie today at Du-par's on Fairfax. It was delicious. And photogenic!
Background: a piece of white foamcore. Lighting: softbox on SB800 at 1/2 power, about 2 feet directly above, lovingly held up by my wife.
Fun fact: from this angle, I had to move the pie very close to the front of the cutting board to give the illusion that it's in the middle.

[last year] should really get back into water drops...
_06/23/11_ Pizza Nutella
This delicious dessert (that bears little resemblance to a pizza) came from Hostaria Del Piccolo, an Italian restaurant in Santa Monica. We had a great dinner with my cousin and her boyfriend who were visiting from a far away land that you may know as the "Bay Area". It's always fun to see extended family and catch up, especially while eating delicious food - my entree was a pizza that used squid ink dough - it was tantalizingly black. Pretty cool.

Merry Christmas!
This is my family's traditional Christmas dessert - the Yule log, also known as Buche de Noel. It's incredibly tasty and has just the right amount of sweetness.
I bounced my flash off the ceiling to get the even lighting.

No, it's not regular tiramisu that sat out too long, it's fancy green tea tiramisu! We got it to follow our delicious meal at Buddha's Belly in Santa Monica, a block from the ocean. I highly recommend the Spicy Crispy Calamari Salad, it's amazing! For the image, I had to be very steady so I didn't have to use the flash. I played around with the colors slightly to make the greens greener, mainly in the mint leaves.
