Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-03-22 Fast Egg
Desperation shot of an egg on one of our placemats. Vroom?

_12/19/12_ Me Ornament
So this is me, sort of. On the back of this fancy egg ornament is my name and birth year. I took a photo of it as it hung on my parents' Christmas tree. It was actually kind of difficult because it kept spinning away from the light.

2012-03-06 Egg on Slate
I first tried to take a photo of a plant silhouette. Then I put it on some stairs. Then I took away the plant. Then I added back some eggs. You know, cause... why not?
I didn't like the eggs on the stairs, so I brought them inside onto this particularly rippled piece of slate tile. Lit from behind with a reflector in front so the egg wasn't a complete silhouette.

Eggs
Cage-free, organic, free-range, omega-3? Nope, just eggs. Take 'em or leave 'em.
Eggmonger
This is a local store, where there's a counter and you have to ask for what you want. No browsing here.
In this case, our friend asked for a dozen eggs and he told her he didn't have that many. Turns out he did; their theory is that most people think a 'dozen' means 24.
_09/03/11_ Hole Flare
A desperation shot taken from the inside of the ostrich egg candle holder that was the subject of last Sunday's daily. Turns out the lens of my S95 is just about the same size as a tea candle, so I just stuck it in and experimented with pointing it at a flashlight. Color effects added in Lightroom.

_08/28/11_ Elephant Light
This is perhaps my last Africa souvenir photo, mostly because the only ones I haven't photographed already are gifts for people and they need to remain surprises. It is, of course, an ostrich egg that has been skillfully carved into this neat elephant design. I actually had to break out our own Dremel tool to get the hole wide enough for a tea light - the egg shell dust smells like burning hair, it's pretty gross.
I put the egg on a black candle holder on a black background and used a 15 second shutter speed to capture the glow from the candle. For the top light, I used my SB800 with a softbox at 1/16 power and then modified the white balance to give it the blueish hue.

In related news, if you want to see some real elephants, check out my freshly uploaded gallery - Africa, Part 1. I'll be adding captions soon!

_06/27/11_ Sliced
We were going to give away this egg slicer, but I wanted to keep it because it would work well as a photo of the day. Turns out it's pretty good at slicing eggs, too. Maybe we'll keep it...
