Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-03-30 Escalator
Desperation shot of an escalator that I'm riding down on. I cranked the saturation and some other sliders to make it a little more interesting.
In sad news, my family's dog in Tucson had to be put down this morning. I was happy I got to play with him when we were there last weekend, but I feel bad for my parents and brother who lived with him. Here's a photo from a few years ago - Max, the hound.

_07/24/11_ Messy Escalator
This is my wife, riding an escalator in a store. You might notice there is some weirdness going on. That's because it's actually 10 photos stitched together using AutoStitch. I waited about 6 steps after my wife and just started taking a bunch of photos at different angles. The app is looking for common elements to make a panorama, but in this case it was just a blob of photos with the only commonality being my wife and the escalator itself. Fun stuff.
Speaking of AutoStitch, I have a blog post that's 80% done about my experience with various iPhone panorama apps. Stay tuned for that!

[last year] hey, it's Rusty...
_07/14/11_ Shadowy Figure
I went to the Annenberg tonight to see Andrew Southam speak about his career in photographing beautiful women. It was pretty interesting, and I'm eager to go back and see the entire Beauty Culture exhibition.
I took this shot of someone coming down the escalator - the light coming from behind them is the reflection of the afternoon sun off of another building at just the right angle.

_04/17/11_ Escalator Obscured
My mom-in-law rolled into town today and we took her to Santa Monica Place for dinner. The mall is outdoors, and all of the escalators have these coverings over them. I zoomed in so that it's kind of hard to tell what you're looking at.
And if you missed it yesterday, check out my photos from the Malibu Lagoon & Adamson House.

[last year] no llamas this time...

Escalator Madness
The Westfield mall on Market St. has these crazy curved escalators that are well worth checking out. They're near the Nordstroms.
