Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Life is still kinda sucky at the moment, but I did manage to actually spend time creating a photo today. I don't feel like explaining it, though, so just enjoy.

Here's another B&W photo from my wife's hospital room. It's very frustrating that she's still there, but these things take time. Just a few more days...
She's gotten a lot of lovely flowers while she's been sick, including this tulip. It was part of a larger bouquet that's still at our house, but the stem broke, so I cut off the broken part and brought it to her. I wish that 2nd leaf wasn't twisted, but otherwise it's a pretty nice tulip specimen.
My wife likes tulips because she's part Dutch, and her birthday is in the spring, when they typically bloom. Also, they're pretty.

This photo is in honor of my late grandmother-in-law, who passed away about 3 weeks ago. She made this bell as a gift to my wife for her birthday when she was very little. Rest in peace, Dorothy.

Thanks to a super-thick marine layer, everything was wet this morning. Not the most pleasant thing, but great for photographing wet flowers. I'm not sure this rose could have handled any more moisture.

These are some flowers my wife bought on Saturday. The harsh overhead light is from our stove hood and the background is a piece of black foam board. I set my camera on a tripod and set the aperture to f/1.4 for a shallow depth of field and overall soft look.
Then I went a little crazy and actually added some artificial film grain. Whoa! Somebody stop me!

It was kind of a hectic day today, and I didn't find any time to get outside for a photo. Instead, I took five photos of some daisies that we have and smooshed them together into this Photoshop creation. There was layering, there was masking, there was inverting, there were effects, but in the end I'm not really sure what I did. Just played around, mostly.
In other news, I was featured on the campus staff and faculty news! Check me out!

![2012-03-05 Coral Tree Reach
I love these trees. This particular one is near the dance buildings at UCLA, but I really love them along San Vicente Blvd. I took this shot when the sun was illuminating only the top of the tree, which has tons of red flowers right now. Despite the interesting lighting and nice colors, I thought it was better as a B&W, since it's more about the shape of the branches.
