Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_10/20/12_ Bloom
We got a really nice bouquet today, and this is one of the pretty flowers in it. I believe it's a type of chrysanthemum, but I don't really know. I should really take a botany class or something.
I used my rented 105mm macro lens that I got for tomorrow's photographers night at the Aquarium of the Pacific. I've been twice before, and am excited to get some new shots, now that I have a fancy lens and a new camera with decent high ISO performance.

_09/23/12_ Descending Flowers
Today we left the lovely Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance and made the long journey back to Santa Monica. This feature was in the front of the hotel - the metal flower chain thing extended from the ceiling to the rock bed below. It's not a great photo because the rocks aren't actually in good focus, but oh well.
I'm also happy to report we crossed a restaurant off our bucket list - finally made it to King's Hawaiian, which was a couple miles from the hotel. So, so good.

_07/31/12_ Purple Bloom
A crazy flower that was part of a bouquet I got at the farmers market. The flowers started at the top and are working their way down. It's quite impressive. I have no idea what plant it is.

[last year] hey, it's London...
_07/24/12_ Swirly Rose
A rose with a twist of the camera. I first tried to twist the rose, but it didn't work because the stem wasn't straight enough. It's not exactly what I was going for, but oh well.

_07/07/12_ Agapanthus Bud
This agapanthus bud really caught my eye because the sun was just barely hitting it and making it glow. The yellow-purple gradient accentuated the effect.

_07/04/12_ Sunflower
This is a sunflower that wouldn't fit in the vase at home, so I cut it very short for this little vase and brought it to my wife at the hospital. It sucks that she's still there.
I used the Cross Process 2 preset in Lightroom for the look, mostly. I'm happy I was able to get such a sharp shot at 1/20s, but I guess that's why I took 3 of them. The other 2 weren't so great.
I'm a little frustrated that some of the elements are tilted, but oh well. I cropped based on the water, so it's the one level thing in the image.

[last year] so many people...
