Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-01 Lounge Chairs
Today, I got the lovely opportunity to visit the Chancellor's residence for a an intimate cello/piano recital. They have these great old lounge chairs by the small pool. Some ducks were there, too.
That's a good story.

2013-04-21 CicLAvia Terminus
This is a panorama of Venice Beach at Windward Avenue (where the "VENICE" sign is), which was packed with bicyclists that participated in CicLAvia, including myself - that's my bike on the left. CicLAvia is Los Angeles' version of events that apparently have become common throughout South/Central America where major city streets are closed off for the exclusive use of pedestrians and bicyclists. It's happened a few times, but before today it was only around downtown, which is a bit far without driving, and that would sort of defeat the purpose. Today's route included Venice Boulevard all the way to the ocean, so I jumped on for a few miles.
It was a lot of fun! I plan on doing it next time for sure.

2013-04-16 Blue Filtered
Desperation shot of the fence-type-thing around the federal building near UCLA. I used the high-contrast blue filter in Lightroom to darken the grass. I really need to use my big camera again...

2013-04-09 Spray
This is the shot I got while thinking about my 3rd Phoneography 101 assignment about lighting. The challenge was to get something backlit...
I admit the photo is kind of random...

2013-04-05 Woman Walker
Like last year, today was the fun Edible Book Festival at the UCLA Library. I took photos, but I'm not choosing any as my photo of the day. Instead, what you're seeing here is a performance of Trisha Brown's Man Walking Down the Side of a Building, which in this case was performed by a woman - Amelia Rudolph.
Obviously it was neat to see someone lowered down the side of the building, but the way she appeared to be casually walking in slow motion was really something. You could tell by her face when she reached the bottom that it was no easy feat, although she made it look easy. I also liked the crowd in front that was all laying on the grass looking up at her. Not a bad turnout for a Friday afternoon, but then again, how often do you get a chance to see something like this?

[last year] pretty rainbow fish...
_12/23/12_ Chain Link Self Portrait
Both my wife and grandmother are doing better today, so that's good.
I walked around the hospital grounds in the afternoon and took this shot near a big tank of some sort.

Dead Flowers
Some dead flowers in front of some wood boards - I liked the contrast. I think the boards are part of the horseshoes pit that I took a photo of the first day.
Virgil Overgrown
This stop sign could use a trim.
_08/22/12_ Ship Bench
I felt the need to burn off some energy tonight, so I walked to the ocean and back - about 4 miles. My final destination was Ocean/California, at Palisades Park. There is a bench/sculpture reminiscent of a ship. It overlooks the California Incline, which is a steep slant of a road that takes you from the bluffs down to PCH. It's scheduled to close soon to be rebuilt, which will cause some definite traffic issues.
I actually took some pretty cool photos of the road, but I wasn't satisfied with the handheld quality. I'll go back with a tripod, graduated ND filter and my D7000 sometime and show you that one.

[last year] enchanting eyes...
