Welcome to the One/Day Project
Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.
Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Today I went on a little work trip to Anaheim to see some nifty products. On my way to find some lunch afterwards, I looked up and hey - it was the Crystal Cathedral. I'd never seen it before, so I decided to stop and take some photos. I know the church has been going through some tough times, but the building sure is awesome.
Just outside the sanctuary there was a statue of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. Mary and Joseph weren't made of metal, so I assume the chrome signifies divinity. He looks like a baby T-1000. It's also quite reminiscent of the tiger guy from Gladiator.

This is Adele, a librarian friend of mine who agreed to be one of my subjects for my Environmental Portraiture class. It seemed fitting to shoot her with some books, and I liked these because of the color contrast. And I didn't even realize her glasses were blue at the time!
In case you're wondering, the blue books are the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. The red book she's holding is the Journal of Clinical Apheresis. I highly recommend reading them - they're just absolutely riveting.

Here's my wife, holding a smile while she gets blown back and forth near the ocean. Of course I always like taking photos of her, but this was specifically for the class I mentioned yesterday and a few other times over the past couple weeks. The main takeaway from this shot is that her face is correctly exposed, even though there are several places that are blown out, and of course the background is all but featureless.
We had a storm we had last night that cleared up pretty early in the morning, but the wind has stayed all day. I really like this shot because of the way her hair is blowing - it looks nice. Many of the other photos were quite... chaotic.

This curly-haired fellow is Alan. We work together and were at a farewell party for one of our bosses. I had hoped to get her as the photo of the day, but too many people had said too many nice things about her and she was in no mood to be photographed. As you can see, it worked out. I haven't done a portrait for a daily photo since Halloween, unless you count this mashup.
In other news, check out my newest post - 8 Crazy Days in Hawaii. We did so much on the trip that it's taken forever to write, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Yep, that's right - The Book of Hair. Created by Joni Mabe, this artists' book was one of many on display at a presentation I attended this afternoon. Some, like this one, were pretty funny* and all of them were quite interesting. Apparently UCLA has quite a collection of artists' books, and I look forward to photographing a few more with my SLR tomorrow... stay tuned!
