Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

__02/12/13__ Curvy Building
The black and white streak continues! One more and it'll be a whole week.
I took this shot of the RRUCLAMC (Ronald Reagan University of California Los Angeles Medical Center, for short) as I left for the day, right around sunset. I walked to the top of the adjacent parking garage to get a view of the building without shadows. Gotta love the travertine. So much travertine...

_08/09/12_ Entry
This is near the main entrance of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, or RRUCLAMC for short. Really, that's short? No, but whatever.
It looks cool in general (it was designed by I.M. Pei, after all), but the crazy purple reflections really set it off for me. That and the shadow pointed right towards the center of the middle part, so it had some balance even though it was the middle of the day. I actually shot this through my sunglasses, which are polarized - that's how I got the purple tint. I couldn't actually see it with my bare eyes, and neither could my phone on its own.

_07/12/12_ Wall Light
Desperation shot of a lamp. I used the grid feature on my phone to line it up so I barely had to crop to get it centered.

_07/10/12_ Demolition
The old building at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. The new building surrounds it, so they have to be very careful while they tear this one down. It's incredible to watch, and I actually took some video of this massive claw thing that I will post as soon as I cut it together (might be a while). Basically this thing munches away at the building, a little bit at a time. Every once in a while a large amount of debris will crash to the ground. It's crazy, I've never seen anything like it.
I took a photo of it 5 days ago, and that part of the building is now gone. They're moving pretty quickly...

[last year] deserves to be re-shot...
_07/06/12_ Circle of Light
A light in a hallway...
I like the blueish tint, which I got by setting the white balance to a spot on the wall, which was very yellow in reality.

_07/05/12_ Ripped Apart
I've been at a new hospital a lot lately, and it's very nice. This is the old one that they've been demolishing.
I finally took my SLR and tripod over today to photograph it - AND take video! My D7000 does that, so I played around. Sadly I have almost no storage left on my hard drive, so it may be a little while before I experiment more.
It's amazing though - there's a giant machine with a huge mouth-like claw on the end that basically 'bites' the building and crushes it to demolish it. It's a very tedious process since the building is huge and it's right next to the working hospital. It's incredible to watch though... just wait for the video. It's crazy.

_07/02/12_ Hallway
The main hallway at the hospital where my wonderful wife has been staying. She's still improving, but it's slow.
About a week ago, I called a different hallway a corridor and wasn't sure what the difference was. This seems more like a hallway to me. I have no idea why.

_06/28/12_ Pull
This is the door handle to my wife's hospital room.
The other side says... wait for it... PUSH.
This isn't a very exciting photo in itself, but it's kind of exciting because it's the first daily photo I've taken with my new D7000 that I got last week. I still have a lot of learning to do before I'm as comfortable with it as I am with my D80.

_06/23/12_ Phone Home
My regular photo readers (lookers?) might notice that I'm posting the next few photos several days late.
My wife's been sick for a while and it got to the point where we had to go to the hospital. This is a rather depressing photo, but the O2 monitor does look pretty cool. I waited until she's feeling better to post it here.
