Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-20 Garage Lights
Right below these lights, I hopped into a car I rented so I can drive to a conference tomorrow. Isn't that neat?

2013-05-09 Pink Sky
I was pulled out of my house this evening by a glowing orange sky that then turned more of a pink color. Everything had this great warm glow, and although it's a little bit exaggerated in this photo, I hope I captured the feeling of it. Magic hour, indeed.

__01/10/13__ Powell LIbrary
Grabbed this shot as I left work today, right around sunset. I'm impressed it turned out so well with the building not being too dark, or the sky overexposed. Edited in Lightroom, but not too much.

_12/24/12_ House Lights
The Christmas lights on my parents house. It was taken just before the sun went behind the houses next to theirs.
Edited with Snapseed.

_12/20/12_ Christmas Lights
This is one of those light-up ceramic Christmas trees with the little colored plastic lights that were apparently popular with a generation that is now very old. This one belonged to my wife's grandmother, but my own grandmother has one very similar.
This is another iPhone shot - I spent a lot of time twisting and turning and using AE/AF lock to get an interesting result. I considered giving in and getting a camera with manual settings, but the challenge was fun.

_12/16/12_ Fuzzy Rain
This is a composite of two rain-on-my-car-window photos - one with the drops in focus and the other not so much.

_12/13/12_ Flashing Lights
This is a four-second exposure of frantically flashing Christmas lights that we had in our window. The string of lights has various settings, from soothing-pulsing-glow to hyper-rave-seizure, and I chose one near the latter for this shot. It's similar to camera toss photos like the ones I did on 12/5/09 and 12/25/09.

_12/08/12_ East to LA
I took a little trip on my bicycle to downtown Santa Monica to get a freeway photo, and here it is. It's not the most super-exciting freeway photo, so I spiced it up with some editing in Lightroom. Nothing too crazy.

_12/01/12_ Mini Tree
Happy December! Do you like our mini tree? We put it up today, along with some other Christmas decorations. We're always at our parents for the holidays, so we only have a handful of decorations at this point in our lives.
This photo took a tremendous amount of work, but it was fun. I'll post something about the setup soon.

As of this photo, I've re-joined SmugMug's DailyPhotos community. The whole community concept on SmugMug could really use an overhaul, and I'm still not happy about losing control of my look and feel just because I'm part of the community. I hope they implement some changes soon (I should get on the forums and see what's going on).
Regardless of the annoyances, I miss the part of the community that does work - passionate photographers following other passionate photographers on a daily basis. So that's why I'm back. I've never been very good at keeping up with some of you, but at least I'm tagging along.
