Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Even though I'm still somewhat sick, I managed to take a DSLR photo tonight. The photo is of oil and water, swirled around in a glass container. It's a busy mess of a photo, and lacks any sort of subject, but I like it as a background or something. It's fun to see all the different ways the oil and water combine and repel.

BY THE WAY... I've been posting my daily photos to my Facebook page if you want to follow me there. Like me!

2013-03-17 Green Drink
Happy Saint Patrick's Day! I celebrated by sharing a cup of green Bailey's with my wife. It was tasty. We're pretty low-key people for the most part, unlike the people that were at a nearby pub that opened at 8am today.
For this photo I wanted the glow of the green liquid, so I chose transparent water rather than opaque irish cream. But it's still green, and that's the important part.
Did you know green is the official color of St. Patrick? It's because it's the opposite color of snakes.

[last year] My mom-in-law's desktop background! At least it was last time I saw her computer...
_11/28/12_ Still on the 'Quil
Sick for the 3rd straight day. I even missed a whole day of a conference because of this! Lame. This tasty green stuff didn't help me sleep at all last night, hopefully tonight is a different story.
In happier news, I uploaded the 4 missing photos from our recent trip to Big Bear over the Thanksgiving weekend. Check 'em out, they're pretty good if I may say so myself.

_05/23/12_ Wine Eye
Tonight required wine, and this was the glass I drank it from. There's always a miniscule amount at the bottom that never makes it into your mouth. I feel like there should be a word for that.
For the shot, I set my compact on the rim with the lens pointing inside, the moved them around together to get the motion.

[last year] have you been picking up your screws? ...
__02/29/12__ Here's to Four Years
I did it! I took and posted a photo every day from 2/29/08 through today. Phase I of the One/Day Project is complete.
I conceived of this photo a few weeks ago and was lucky that the predicted rain for today didn't pan out. My tradition has been to get a photo at the beach for my last shot of that year. I wanted to get a little more creative this year, and I thought this would be a fitting concept. I chose this shot over the others because of the colors and the super-glassy look of the wet sand.
Take a look at the photo setup for it - Photo Setup - 2/29/12

So, will I keep going? Yes, yes I will. I have no reason not to continue, and it's quite enjoyable.

Oh, and feel free to buy some prints, like me on Facebook, and follow me on Twitter :)

[last year] sorry, there was no 2/29 last year...

So cool! But brings so much suffering...
Gold Pour Demonstration
Gold Reef City, Johannesburg
The tour included a gold pour demonstration, although it wasn't with real gold. The room was set up like a theater and the demonstration was accompanied by a loud cinematic soundtrack that explained what we were seeing. It was pretty cool.
We were sitting at least 30 feet away when they opened the furnace door and were still hit with a surprising blast of heat.
