Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Farewell, April. This photo was made with a flash bulb housing and gears from a pocket watch. Both the flash and the watch were slated for the trash.
Just to be clear - this is not Photoshopped. It's two gears and the resulting reflections from being placed in the bottom of the flash bulb housing.

_11/03/12_ Apple
This apple is from the grocery store, but tomorrow we're going to get some straight from the source at Rileys at Los Rios Rancho. We went here about 4 years ago but I guess they were already out of apples, so we didn't pick any. It was fun, though, and I'm expecting a lot of fun tomorrow.
This was shot with my macro lens with an off-camera softbox that was set on a box so it would only cast light on the apple and not the surface it was on. I sprayed it with a mister first. Misters are pretty great for produce shots - makes it instantly better. Usually.

_10/29/12_ Fuzzy Spider
This fun little guy was hanging around our house and as cool as it is, I made it go outside. First, however, I got this photo while on our curtain. I'm glad I finally upgraded my camera - this is significantly cropped, but still 6 megapixels. Good enough for an 8x10!

_10/24/12_ Raspberry Lemon
For today's photo, I set a raspberry on top of a lemon. I ate the raspberry afterwards. I did not eat the lemon.
I'm a little sad that I have to send back my rented lens tomorrow, but I'm hoping to make one last trip to the botanical gardens before I do.

_10/21/12_ Fireworks
Mesmerizing, isn't it?
This coral (I think...) is at the Aquarium of the Pacific, which held their Photographers Night this evening. If you live anywhere in Southern California, I highly recommend attending. For about 4 hours, photographers get the run of the place and are allowed to use tripods and flashes.
I like the colors and details on this coral. I ended up going back multiple times to re-shoot it with various settings since I liked it so much.
I will post more photos soon. While you're waiting, feel free to check out my galleries from past events:

_10/20/12_ Bloom
We got a really nice bouquet today, and this is one of the pretty flowers in it. I believe it's a type of chrysanthemum, but I don't really know. I should really take a botany class or something.
I used my rented 105mm macro lens that I got for tomorrow's photographers night at the Aquarium of the Pacific. I've been twice before, and am excited to get some new shots, now that I have a fancy lens and a new camera with decent high ISO performance.

_10/18/12_ Bug on Cactus
I took my fancy rented 105mm macro lens out to the botanical gardens today and found this bug. Not sure what it is, but it seemed familiar. I'm trying to use the lens as much as possible before Sunday, when I'll be taking it to the Aquarium of the Pacific for their photographer's night, which is a lot of fun.

_10/10/12_ Spider Bottom
This orb weaver spider had built a web right outside a window in my office just a few inches from the glass, and it was right at eye level if I sat on the ground (it's a floor-to-ceiling window). I set the focus where the legs connect to the body, but I had to take a lot of shots because there was a slight breeze outside that made the spider move around - not much to the naked eye, but because I was focusing so close it was quite noticeable.
Afterwards, I took the camera to Bel Air Camera in Westwood and paid the nice repair guy $25 to clean my sensor. You can't tell in this photo, but my sensor was incredibly dirty and made me very sad. I should have checked it as soon as I opened the box after buying it on eBay. Oh well, it's all good now.

_04/16/12_ Peppermint
This is a piece of candy that spent some time in my pocket, then on my desk, and now it's in the trash, because I don't really like peppermint candy. And that's the end of that story.
Did you see my Chicago photos? Most of the things we did were part of the CityPass, so I mentioned them in a tweet after the gallery uploaded and they RTed it and also posted it on their FB page. It got 5 likes. That means I'm special, right?
