Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_03/17/12_ Stormy Seas
It rained a lot today, but mostly cleared up in the afternoon, so I thought it'd be a good time to take the ol' camera down to the beach for sunset. I had trouble parking because of the LA Marathon happening tomorrow, and the sunset itself was pretty much a bust.
I took this shot on the bank of an outlet that was being eroded away with every incoming wave. Because the outgoing drainage was meeting the incoming sea, there were a lot of interesting patterns in the water when I used a slow shutter speed. Not interesting enough in themselves, however, so I framed this shot with the Santa Monica pier and more of the sky, which was also interesting. This view is looking northwest, towards Malibu at the foot of the Santa Monica mountains.

_07/10/11_ Stratified
This cool wrinkly rock is on it's way to becoming beach sand in a few thousand (?) years. The surrounding cliffs are also made up of crazy layers of rocks and sand, in various states of erosion. In the distance is Point Dume, which marks the northernmost point of the Santa Monica bay. I drove there this morning for the sunrise, which never came - too much marine layer.
I do like this shot, but it'd be so much better if I had an ND filter so I could use a longer shutter speed and really blur the water. I should really just buy one... anyone have a recommendation?

In related news, I posted a new collection of Reject Photos to my Flickr page, including a few more from today!
In other news, I finished up a new blog post about the Nikon 70-300mm lens I just bought!

[last year] berry nice to see you, #4...
Ladybug
Do you see it? The background is aqua blue windows covered by elaborate wrought iron.
Door Handle
Cool detail on an old door handle. It's kind of funny because just out of frame there's a Master lock keeping the door shut.
Green Man
A sign near this fountain explains that the Green Man is the God of Fertility. It does not elaborate on whose god that is, anyone know more?
Dog Tub
The sign for this says that the family used this bathtub to bath their dogs. So ridiculous!
Tile Wall
I really like this shot, it's very characteristic of the house. I suppose when you own a tile factory, the logical thing to do is cover your house in tile. It's freaking everywhere.
Pool 3
In this pool shot you get to see the pool house and the hills behind. When the property was built, PCH didn't exist and you couldn't see any other houses.
Pool 2
Another shot of the pool, showing the awesome wooden diving board. The house hasn't been renovated at all, so certain things (like things made of wood) really show their age, but the tile all still looks great. The main house is in the background.
