Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

This is another fellow student from the Environmental Portraiture class I'm taking. This photo doesn't really match the assignment for today's photo shoot, but it's still my favorite, therefore it's my photo of the day. I mean, look at that wall! And the color contrast with his shirt! And that great smile!
The lighting is a single bounced flash.

__01/28/12__ Man of the Trees
This is Vince, from my Environmental Portraiture class. We are not out in nature, but at Drake stadium at UCLA. I really liked the glow of the backlit trees, so I took this low angle shot to get them in it. We took a lot of other shots on the bleachers, which were also cool.
I'm definitely learning a lot from this class, it's very fun.

RIP, Steve. I love his bicycle analogy. In honor, I will start referring to computers as 'braincicles'. It has a better ring to it than 'braincycles'.
I was excited to head to the beach this afternoon after a very rainy day, especially for early October. It was cold and windy, but at least this guy posed for me. Not really, of course - I have no idea who he is. I'm just happy he turned to the side to make a more interesting silhouette.

[last year] creepy crawly...
Bungee Jumper
Soweto
There are two cooling towers from an old power plant in Soweto that kind of dominate the skyline. They've been turned into beautiful murals with a bridge in between for bungee jumping.
We didn't do it ourselves, but we got to see this guy jump.
Passing By
Soweto
Across from the Buy & Braai, these two gentlemen walked by each other as a massive ABSA balloon looms in the distance. ABSA is a local bank, and the giant balloon was part of a mall and you can ride in it.
Buy and Braai
Soweto
After spending a week in Pemba, Mozambique, we flew back to Johannesburg and did some tours around the city and surrounding area. The first place we went was Soweto, and this is a particularly poor area near some very large slums.
Braai is the South African word for barbeque. You buy your meat from the store in the back and then bring it out to grill it. This was very early in the morning and everyone was drinking beer. But hey, it was Sunday.
Head Carry
A man carrying what appears to be produce. It was interesting to contrast his clothing with the woman that followed right behind him (next photo).
