Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Today was fun. I worked last Saturday and so I needed to take another day off to make up for it, and I chose today. I played the part of chauffeur and drove my wife around to the various places she goes for her job. The first stop was near the Los Angeles Farmers Market, where I took this shot. I also walked over to the Grove. Both places were pretty fun to visit at 9am on a weekday - hardly anyone around compared to later in the day or the huge weekend crowds.
I also stopped by Samys Camera, where they were having a sale. Yep, I bought something. Something AWESOME. Ok, I'll just tell you - I got a carbon fiber tripod and head! Sadly it wasn't as great of a deal as I originally thought. Compared to full retail price, it was amazing. But compared to what Adorama and B&H would have charged, I only saved about $20 (and I didn't have to wait for shipping). But still, I'm very excited about it, and will probably do a review of some sort on the ol' blog.

_06/03/12_ Cherry Bounty
We took a detour from our usual fresh food venues and went to the Hollywood Farmers Market this morning. We started with breakfast at The Farmer's Kitchen, which was wonderful. We bought $10 worth of cherries - 2 lbs - and will surely enjoy eating them throughout the week. There were at least 5 different vendors selling cherries. Gotta love summer.
This is yet another iPhone photo. I did a few things in Lightroom to give it a slightly old-fashioned look by using vignetting, clarity and film grain adjustments.

_10/22/11_ Flame Grapes
What a day. I started out going to the farmers market, where I took this photo of some delicious grapes. After lunch, we went to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood to see Iris - the new Cirque du Soleil show. It was fantastic! My favorite parts were the twin brother aerialists and the 'bug' acrobats. Just amazing.
And then finally at the end of the day, we met up with a friend at the Hollywood Forever cemetery for the 12th annual Dia de Los Muertos. That sure was an experience - everyone had their faces painted, there was Aztec dancing with incredibly elaborate costumes and headdresses and plenty of delicious food and drink. All throughout the cemetery were altars that different people and groups had built. Some were just for family, others had celebrity tributes, and some were interactive.
Why no photos of that? Well, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing, and I only had my phone with me. It's pretty impressive in low light, but not enough to capture a cemetery at night. You better believe I'll be going again next year with a bigger camera.

Tire Rope
An example of recycling? Old tires get turned into rope and sold in bundles like you see here.
Also note the hair style posters and old-fashioned Singer in the background.
Hot Hot Hot
The local hot sauce is called piri piri and is made from these guys. We had it at several restaurants and it varies a lot from place to place. At Samar, I used quite a bit of it to spice up the food, but at the Pemba Beach Hotel, it was pretty much inedible because it was so hot.
