Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_12/26/12_ Baboquivari Sunset
This was taken from the Babad Do'ag lookout along Catalina Highway, which takes you up to Mount Lemmon near Tucson. Baboquivari peak is the prominent peak in the far mountain range, with the city of Tucson in the foreground. All of those names (including Tucson) are originally from the Tohono O'odham language.
Now that my wife is out of the hospital and doing much better, it was nice to go on a little photo excursion. Before yesterday, all my daily photos had been iPhone shots for 1.5 weeks. Not that that's bad... but it's indicative of photography being pushed pretty far down on the priority list.

_05/02/12_ Keys
Ugh, sick again. I stayed home today, watched some movies, and took a desperation shot of some keys. They look like mountains!!! Kind of.

_04/28/12_ Packing Up
This morning my wife and I headed over to Pasadena for the occasional Doo Dah Parade, which is awesome. It's known as the anti-Rose Parade, and it's full of colorful characters. I'm sure many of them were drunk.
I took photos at the parade, but just snapshots, nothing artistic. Later, I went to the beach and walked about 2 miles in the sand, which was quite a workout. Towards the beginning I took this photo of three people that were just packing up from an afternoon at the beach. In the center, you can see a parasailer.
I like how the woman on the right seems to be standing on a ball of light. It's lens flare, of course, which is pretty much unavoidable if you point your lens straight at the sun.

_03/22/12_ Preciouses
After 3.5 years of wearing them, I finally took a daily photo of our wedding rings. Unless you count the photo I took the day after our wedding... but that doesn't count.
Mine is the one in focus, my wife's is the one with a ruby. Both of them have the etched mountain range, which resembles actual peaks around Tucson. I believe this one is Thimble Peak, near Sabino Canyon.
With this photo posted, I thee go to bed.

[last year] love this one - it's real, very little processing...
Eagle Borax Works
West Side Road
While the ruins themselves are disappointing, it was neat to see this site - the first borax mine established in Death Valley. We never saw surface water, but it was like an oasis with all of the reeds.
Southern End
Ashford Mill Ruins
This photo was taken near Ashford Mill ruins, an old ?borax? mine? It lies at the very southern end of Death Valley. After we checked out the ruins (not particularly impressive), we drove up West Side Road, which is on the other side of Death Valley as Badwater road.
It's unpaved, but it was a piece of cake to drive compared to Racetrack Road.
Badwater Spring
Badwater Basin
Here is it - the lowest point in the United States at 282 feet below sea level. Near the edge of the salt flats is Badwater Spring, which is not 'bad' water, just really salty. It's a natural spring and with a few others like it, supports a rare snail and some other life, too.
However, the first white guy to discover it couldn't get his mule to drink from it, so he dubbed it Badwater.
Crater Wall
Ubehebe Crater
This dramatic erosion is the edge of the Ubehebe Crater, which you have to drive past if you're coming back from the Racetrack. It's a volcanic crater that exploded a couple thousand years ago. It's very impressive and it's neat that you can hike to the bottom of it. After a long day, we turned down that opportunity.
Sand Painting
Racetrack Road
These hills really looked like a sand painting to us. Just beautiful.
