Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Happy Earth Day!
We went on a short hike this morning and saw nature in action - some California newts doing some reproducing. Although I think there are 7 newts in this photo, only two of them are actually mating and the rest are other males that want in on the action. At least that's what I read online.
We actually saw two of these scenes! Spring is in the air I guess.
This photo turned out OK, but most of the ones I took were throwaways because of reflection and distortion issues from shooting through the surface of the water.

_03/17/12_ Stormy Seas
It rained a lot today, but mostly cleared up in the afternoon, so I thought it'd be a good time to take the ol' camera down to the beach for sunset. I had trouble parking because of the LA Marathon happening tomorrow, and the sunset itself was pretty much a bust.
I took this shot on the bank of an outlet that was being eroded away with every incoming wave. Because the outgoing drainage was meeting the incoming sea, there were a lot of interesting patterns in the water when I used a slow shutter speed. Not interesting enough in themselves, however, so I framed this shot with the Santa Monica pier and more of the sky, which was also interesting. This view is looking northwest, towards Malibu at the foot of the Santa Monica mountains.

_12/30/11_ Yellow Balloon
This lovely yellow balloon was floating around as we left Tucson this morning to make the lovely drive back to Los Angeles. I took this photo at Dunkin' Donuts while my wife went inside to buy fuel for the trip. Directly under the balloon is Mount Lemmon (9157ft / 2791m), the highest point in the Santa Catalina mountains. I did a bit of editing with the color and such.

[last year] so cold...

West Side Road
Here you can see the salt flats right in front of the Devil's Golf Course, with colorful mountains in the background.

West Side Road
Although most of the unpaved West Side Road was bumpy and dusty, a part of it was incredibly smooth. Like, it was ridiculous. I rarely drive on a paved road that was as nice.

A view of the Amargosa mountains reaching into Death Valley.
_08/31/11_ Cloudy Morning
I found this view of UCLA interesting with the mist/cloud/fog/marine layer. I like how that little building really stands out. I'm pretty sure it's just stairs to an underground parking garage... I worked a lovely 10+ hour day, so I was too tired to do anything real interesting with the photo. This is Lightroom's Antique Grayscale preset.
Hey, you made it through August!

_07/17/11_ Misty Mountains
Not exactly Tolkienesque, this is part of the San Gabriel range that overlooks Los Angeles. It was rather hazy and gross to see from above, but it made for a cool photo with my 300mm lens. I'd never used it on a plane and was hoping for some cool close-up shots of things on the ground, but a dirty window and a an over-the-wing vantage point were working against me.
Did you see why I was out of town yesterday? Fun stuff!

_05/29/11_ Escondido Falls
Impressive waterfall in Escondido Canyon. A very easy and pleasant trail takes you to a small falls after about 1.5 miles, but then you can do a little bit of climbing to get to the upper falls (pictured here) which involves holding onto a rope to get past a steep muddy spot and some light bouldering. In case you're wondering - yes, I was standing in the water to take this photo.
Here's a 360 degree view of the falls, taken with the Photosynth iPhone app - http://bit.ly/mOWMHv
