Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Find me on the Interwebs
SmugMug - My primary hub. All of my photos live here and I'm constantly updating the One/Day Project. Feel free to comment, or better yet - buy something!
Twitter - Follow me. Sometimes I post interesting links or say witty things.
Tumblr - Titled 'jawsnap likes', it's things I like. This is where I link to awesome photos that other people took.
Flickr - Everything I post in the 'Reject Photos' set is under the Creative Commons licensing. Do whatever you want to the photos, just give me credit.
Facebook - Giving the people a chance to be my fan. Also, I post compelling photography-related stuff here from time to time.
Scenic Neighborhood
Here's the amazing view (minus my wife and I) from a spot along the main road that leads to downtown Pemba. This is pretty typical of the local houses, which are bamboo frames with mud/clay plaster applied.
Pemba Overlook
Do we look tired? I compared this photo to the one at the beginning of the gallery, and it's clear the tropical sun was taking a toll. We survived.
This was taken at a particularly good view along the main road that leads to downtown Pemba.
Shirt?
This was yet another kid that wanted his photo taken - he came out of nowhere and disappeared right afterwards. Sometimes I showed the people their photos on the back of the camera, but few seemed to care that much - they just wanted their photo taken.
At first I thought he was holding up a book, but upon closer inspection it appears to be a men's dress shirt. Ok, sure.
Chapa
This is one of the infamous chapas - a local bus that held far more people that it should have. We actually passed on this one because we didn't feel like cramming in - which of course seemed strange to the operators.
We used these to travel around town. A few times when we weren't on the route, we took a taxi. The fare is 7.5 meticais, which is about 25 cents in US currency. They collect the money at the end, and sometimes you have to pay a little extra or a little less, because no one carries .5 meticais.
Leaving Pemba
Not the greatest photo, but fitting as the last photo in this gallery. The water you see here is all leading into Pemba Bay.
Group Photo
Here's my wife and I with our friends in the Peace Corps. We took the photo right outside their house just before we left for the airport.
Kids Playing
I have no idea what this girl is shouting, but they were all having a lot of fun. They had some sort of board that floated, and they were trying to ride on it. Also, most of these boys are completely naked. We were told it was pretty normal for kids to be naked on the beach and this was not the only time we saw it.
