Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Wow, what a week. I finished Year 4 amid an especially hectic work-week. Thanks to my friend Vivek, our staff newsletter was alerted to the milestone and I got interviewed about it this morning. I should become world-famous in about a week or so.
Today's photo was taken during a walk around the neighborhood. Aww, love...
The whitish/bluish dome-like shape in the background is a parked car. FYI.

__02/28/12__ Expansion
Today would be the end of Year 4 of my One/Day Project, except that it's leap year, so it will end tomorrow. That was the point from the beginning, though - leap day to leap day. Can you believe it? Four years. I do have something planned, but it might get rained out... stay tuned.
Today's photo was supposed to be a honey bee on a cherry blossom. It was my first daily photo ever, and I paid tribute to that by taking a similar bee-on-flower photo on 2/27/09, 2/26/10 and 2/24/11. This year was a bust - there were no bees! Very sad.
But I walked around the botanical gardens anyways, and I got this photo of a cycad frond. I actually took a photo of the same plant last year, but I like this one better.

[last year] one of my best, for sure...
__01/29/12__ Aeonium
We bought some plants and pots today. Some went into our new bay window, some went outside on our balcony. This is a close up of Aeonium arboretum, after I misted it a little.

Hey, guess what happens in exactly 1 month?! It will be very exciting for me. Want a clue? Go to the 'last' photo in this gallery.

__01/20/12__ Lisa
Lisa was one of two friends at work that helped me take some photos for the Environmental Portraiture class I'm taking. I was practicing getting subjects with front, side and back light. This photo is deep in the shade, so it's not really any of those situations, but I like the photo.
I only had my S95 on hand, which required a pretty high ISO. Hopefully you can't tell too much.
Stay tuned for more people photos!

In other news, I was sad to hear that the LA Zoo's hippo had to be euthanized. I took some photos of it last year in healthier times. I remember being really excited to see it walking around and eating before going back in the water.

_12/26/11_ Saguaro
Although I've been hiking in Saguaro NP many, many times, I've never been with a polarizing filter on my lens. Thanks to the filter, I was able to get a super-blue sky and really bring out the subtle patterns on the cactus.
I'm happy I went hiking this morning - I have almost every meal for the next few days booked up with various friends. It's amazing how busy a vacation can become.

_12/20/11_ Plant Shadows
Another desperation shot that I took on my way out of work. The shadows are from larger plants next to the one you see here. Anyone know what type this is? They have a lot of them around UCLA, but I no longer work near the botanical gardens so it's hard to check.

[last year] timeless...
Mesquite Flats Dunes
Mesquite Flats Dunes
This is a very representative shot of the sand dunes. You can see human footprints, natural ripples, a plant, mud flats, larger dunes in the distance, and mountains in the Amargosa range in the very background.
