Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_05/07/12_ Hanging Plants
Well, this is my first photo after removing my gallery from the Daily Photos community. I hope some people still see this... *crickets* It sure is nice to have my own custom theme back, though.
Tonight I went on a quick walk around the neighborhood and spotted these hanging plants and took a quick shot at f/1.4. I edited in iPhoto on my wife's laptop, since my iMac is on the fritz. Basically the display freaks out when you turn it on - flashing white and pink bands and everything. I would just buy a new one, but I really want them to come out with a new model first, since the current iMac is already a year old. Such is the bane of committing all of your computing devices to Apple.

Teakettle Junction
Racetrack Road
I knew about this sign before we came to Death Valley, so I should have brought our own kettle to hang on it. What a fun thing.

_05/09/11_ Brain Pot
Tonight my wife took this brain and cooked it in a bot of poiling water, turning it green. She then proceeded to eat it layer by layer, dipping it into belted mutter. I was pretty desperate for a photo today, so I grabbed this mini artichoke and tossed it in the phot for the poto.
Please note: I may have mixed up one or more words or letters. It's late of kind and I'm a tired little.

__02/03/11__ Pots and Pans
Desperation shot of two pots and two pans hanging on our new-ish pot rack. I experimented with holding the flash so that the shadows didn't overlap at all. Black and white was an obvious choice since the scene was lacking in color to begin with.
Thanks to Donna for the New Orleans tips! I definitely will visit the French Quarter and I hope to make it to a cemetery, but we won't have a car, so... it'll have to be close. Anyone else have ideas for me? I'll be there next week. :)

__01/23/11__ Plant Shadow
This is our house's newest plant, a 'bicolor' (Dracaena marginata).
I set the camera on a tripod a few feet away from the plant and pointed down at it. I took the shot by using the self-timer and walking around with my off-camera flash and pointed it down at the plant from behind. Getting the entire plant in the frame would have been nice, but the rug wasn't big enough, and I wanted a consistent background.

[last year] we almost never go to this store, but we were there again today, weird...
__01/08/11__ Moderate Hook
Another B&W today. These are the hooks on our brand new pot rack that we installed today. So far we love it. I hung up a black background behind and lit with an off-camera flash. As you can see, the focus point is on the hook that's not pointed to the right or the left.
My thoughts have often been with my hometown of Tucson today. My heart goes out to the families of those killed and injured. One of the victims went to my high school, just two years ahead of me. Such a tragic event for so many, it leaves me with a terrible feeling.

[last year] the replacement is coming along...
_10/16/10_ Window Plants
This was our big project for the day - plants! After 2 months of not having anything in that window (part of the time it was getting rebuilt), it's great to have some nice plants. Hopefully they won't all die from the intense sun. At least not right away...
In other news, I got Lightroom 3! I haven't played around with it too much, but I like all the new develop presets. This one is 'Color CP 2' - fun!

__01/31/10__ Potted Purple Plant
Today we finally got a proper pot for a plant our friends gave us about a month ago.
This photo looked a lot better in my head. I wanted to take it straight on instead of from below, but my flash lit up things in the background so I had to point up to get all night sky. I'm also not happy how my bounced flash looked like it was taken straight on. Regardless, it's a cool plant and a cool pot, and I don't have time to set something more elaborate up. I'm ready for February.
