Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

It rained today, for most of the day. About an hour or so before sunset, it had partially cleared and the sun came out from time to time. For about 5 minutes, there was absolutely gorgeous light, but I wasn't in a place to get a good photo of anything, sadly. I took this shot after the sun went behind clouds for the last time today, but they sky was still very bright and caused quite a contrast reflecting off the wet sidewalk. I liked the symmetry and the varying levels of softness and reflection on the path. Or something like that. You know what I mean.

It rained today. These leaves got wet. Only one had water drops beaded on the surface, however. Curious.

This is the Santa Monica Pier, which I've photographed many a time before. I felt like going down to the ocean to get a shot after it rained. Little did I know it would still be raining... You can't tell in this 9 second exposure, but believe me, I was getting wet. I kept the camera reasonably dry with a combination of a bandana, a tissue and hovering over the lens. Even so, most of my shots had drops in them, but this one came out almost totally clean. I also really like how the colors turned out.

I wish I had a more creative title for you, sorry. It was near the Napa Valley Grille in Westwood.
The drops are brought to you by yesterday's hard and seemingly endless rain. The processing is brought to you by the CP3 preset in Lightroom, plus a little more tweaking.
If you liked Saturday's photo of a cute 2-year-old chasing bubbles, I posted a few more pics of that shoot on my Facebook page. Check it out, become a fan, and you will be a better person because of it. Promise.

Today was the LA Marathon - the men's winner ran the fastest marathon in Los Angeles ever, and it was his first time! He also won by a lot, the women's race was much closer. I had hoped to go check it out and take photos, but the rain kept me away. I know I sound lame, but it wasn't just a little rain - it's been raining all freaking day and pretty hard. We have a window that started leaking from half a dozen spots and we had to go outside and nail in a tarp to protect it.
Long story short, I just took a desperation shot outside a window. I did a lot of processing, including adding some blue-ish highlights.

Thanks to rain and still being a little sick, I didn't venture far for a photo of the day. This is the fence right outside my front door, turned upside-down of course. Drops drip down, they don't grow up. Did some editing in Lightroom, including the split toning effect.

It rained today... I went out in it after sunset and it started to get dark(er). This is an intersection as a car drove through, making the neat spiral pattern. I processed pretty heavily in Lightroom, including cranking all the noise reduction controls to give a softer, semi-fake look.

Tonight I had dinner with my family at our favorite Mexican joint. I was a little disappointed because they seem to have changed their salsa recipe, but otherwise it was good.
I took this shot with my S95 before we braved the rain to go inside. Luckily it wasn't raining hard at the time, and as you may have guessed, we parked near the entrance, since this is their sign.
I hope to get an interesting cold-themed photo for tomorrow - the storm that brought this rain is supposed to give us lows well below freezing tomorrow night.

It rained today. Sort of. Not really - it was just really misty. After eating lunch in the very chilly botanical gardens I set out to find a photo of the day and focused on these plants that just seemed to attract water. The bush next to it had no water on it's leaves, but as you can see, this one had lots.
By the way, I shot this with my new Canon S95! Would you like to know more about my experiences with it? Super! I wrote a blog post - Day 1 with the Canon S95. Includes 36 lovely full-color photographs!
